This pretty much sums it up in one frame:

By the way, I bought an iPhone 5 for my wife, since she prefers ios and the slim iphone over the S2 or S3 I had her use.

Phone came today and right out of the box, there is what appears to be an oil stain on the back cover (that may have been over heated somehow, cause it won't come off), one small scratch one the back cover and a knick on the side.

There is significant lag when in settings and scrolling down installed apps. Like Froyo style type lag. I never saw anything this bad on my iphone 4. Everywhere else I have looked so far has been smooth, but I only played with it for a few minutes.

There is also a pixel fragmentation issue or display issue of some sort on the keyboard, the '123' button. A black line flickers in and out above it at about 20 fps (I'm just guessing on the fps).

I have owned all the iphone's up to the iphone 4, when I switched to the S2, then to the S3. I have never seen a new iphone look this bad. My dual core S3 puts this thing to shame in the quality department, in the speed department and of course in the usefulness department, like all Android devices. The screen quality is better on the iphone, but I expected that on a smaller screen with higher ppi. I'm glad I stayed with my S3. I will never buy another iDevices.

anyone post this yet.. talk about zombies!! wow

Waiting for an iPhone 5...for no reason - YouTube

Holy God Allmighty is she a kick in the brain or what. She apparently wants one because the Internet on the Apple Phone 5 will not scam her. She is buying an iPhone 5 so isnt she already being scammed by Apple?:D

And, like . . . she like adds like to every sentence. It is like, she is not like, educated like. She like gives us fanboys a black eye.

Thanks for the video.

When did Apple release a new version of the iPhone 5? I thought all we had was the current version of the iPhone 5?

I wish I was there and could show her a Galazy S3 or 12 or whatever the latest one is. I would tell er it is an iPhone 6 and they just went on sale across the street.

What I'm confused about is how folks say the iphone is easier to use. I don't get it.

People do know you don't have to root or customize or do anything fancy with an Android device to be able to use them right? Do people really believe this? If you want to granny Smith your Android you can do so but At least you're not forced to.

You can make a phone call, text, check email and social media just as well on an Android device as you can on an iphone so people saying iphones are more intuitive just doesn't make sense to me. Just a bunch of propaganda.

That is unacceptable. I would definitely send it back for replacement. Seems Apple is letting their quality control slip to meet increased demand.

It takes tooth and nail to watch a video because you have to convert it. I gave up on my iPod because it just takes too much time

No, he got unlucky. EVERY manufacturer occasionally ships a lemon. Even Android makers have probably (I'll guarantee it) shipped a bad device with a defect here and there.

This is not an Apple only issue by any means.

Of course not. It's just that Apple has so far had a good record on phone build quality, so it's surprising that this would happen. And it seems that it's not just a few bad apples

Not sure Apple looks at every device it ships. I'll bet someone at the factory inspects Apple iDevices and Apple here in the United States never sees their products.

One thing Apple does do is replaces defective devices. Sometimes, if you cause the damage Apple often replaces it. Not sure Mot or Samesong will do it. Perhaps not even BB.

I know someone who bought a printer from BB and it was defective. The ink cartridge holder was damaged. BB made the buyer jump through hoops to get a simple replacement.

Face it folks . . . Apple is by no means the only company that ships crap from time to time. They all do, even Android.

The only way to judge defect rates and compare quality is if you have reliable data. Hard to find on the web and not worth trusting, usually, because people BS, lie, stretch and fiddle with the data. If they are Android or Apple fanatics, toss everything they say out the window.

We do not have reliable numbers from either side, just lots of crappy YT videos showing all sorts of things that "prove" Apple is crap. We have people telling us what they experienced and they suggest Apple's quality is lower. Therefore, Apple is crap and Android is great.

But we never hear from the pissed of Android user because they likely took their device back and they have better things to do than post their useless complaints on some web site. It is easy to complain about Apple but it is likely fair to say that Android makers ship crap from time to time. This is just a fact.

My guess is Apple is usually flawless out of the box. Not sure about Android. I know that Apple is good about replacing bad products. Plenty of reliable stories from people that drop their iPad and the local Apple store replaces it. Perhaps this happens on the Android side as well.

All I know is one must never take these horror stories seriously because without data, you cant judge the company. At least not fairly.

Usually. Not this time. I feel bad for the users who paid a lot just to have a damaged product out of the box and those who belittle their concerns.

Not saying Apple is crap, but there do seem to be a lot of reports about the anodized finish being scratched or otherwise defective out of the box. I'm sure Apple will make it right, they have enough bad publicity going on with the maps debacle. Yes, every product has defects, especially at launch, but Apple has the allegedly immaculate "build quality" reputation, so you can't expect people not to mention it when there are obvious QC issues.

Every iphone Apple release has had some kind of defect or issue. Apple is susceptible to problems just like every OEM.
