i get some weird message in CWM saying stuff about
getprop("ro.product.device") epic4gtouch

at the end it says status 7 in parenthesis.

I just went ahead and went with CM9. less complicated.

but i really wanted to use that new camera. sucks.

I have flashed a fresh CM10 2 times now, I checked the link and the file size and name are the same as I have used.

I flashed cm10 no problem. Go figure.

What CM10 did you use? there is this one
[ROM] CM10 alpha5.3: Android 4.1.1 for Samsung Epic 4G Touch
Which is built straight from CM10 Source

Then there is this one
[ROM][Sprint][JB][08/25/2012] Jellybro CM10 [Nightlies]
Which is a port.

I used the first one and had the issue with the improper device name.

PM sent:

It sounds like you are currently running AGAT (recovery tool that looks similar to CMW), AGAT won't flash non-TW ROMs.

1. Flash: 41g-ATB-cmw-0910 (CMW)
2. Reboot into CMW (AGAT will be gone)
3. Factory wipe
4. Flash: cm-10-20120903-UNOFFICIAL-d710 (CM10)

Reboot and enjoy.

I'm having issues installing cm10.

I am currently rooted on ics and kernal Chris41g CWM5 Recovery from Rwilco12's Android Repository and have cwm recovery (not agats)

When I go to install a rom, even with the thread rom here and/or asop I get the same errors.

It says the following:
-format() expects 4 args, got 5
-E: Error (named.zip file here) <--I put that to cover for whatever zip I use, in this case we can use say cm-10-20120903-UNOFFICIAL-d710 (CM10) if you wish
-(Status7)
-Installation aborted

I tried installing from the external sdcard, and I get the same error/issue.

I have tried numerous zips with no luck. I've downloaded what seems a terabyte of files LOL, and keep trying different ones, but still cannot get jb/cm/asop installed.

After exhausting multiple hrs of downloads, rebooting the phone to recovery, transferring the files to the phone, etc.....I'm out of ideas. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this will help but here is my phone info:

Baseband versionS: D710.10S.FI22

Kernel version3.0.15-SPH-710.FF18-CL663858 SE.INFRA@SEP-113#3 SMP PREEMPT Mon June 18 19:35:19 KST 2012

Build numberIMM761.FI22HardwareD710.10

I hope this info helps so someone can help me get a JB rom installed.

@matt
Thanks for the link, but I figured out what the hangup was I was having.
It would seem that not all cwm recovery is compatible with the roms. I am useing 41g-ATB-cmw-0910 and am now running an unofficial cm10 JB rom.
I'm in hog heaven now, I can try roms till they run out my ears :).

I am happy, as if you couldn't tell, love the new JB settings, really nice stuff

Glad to hear you got it working. If you need anything else just ask. Their seems to be a pretty solid community here of all around helpful people.

This is true....I almost feel like sayng the phrase from a movie "I love you man!" :)

But seriously, yeah I've had a ton of help here, and a LOT of patience for sure.

I am gonna d/l asop right now, gonna give it a try, as it doesn't look like cm crew has a cm10 official rom for this specific phone as of yet, it's only up to cm9.
