LG Connect, ZBoost Signel Booster, genral signal and speed issues.

Roadblock

My wife decided to get her and our two teenagers MetroPCS phones when her Verizon contract ran out. The cost of the MetroPCS phones is almost half what the Verizon bill was.

My wife picked the LG Connect.

About two weeks in, she decided these phones were just not working. In side our house she could NOT talk to anyone. The calls were so broken she has to go outside to hear. Unfortunately she is past the return policy.

I know they are pre-paid but between the 3 phones she bought she has almost $800.00 dollars paid out and doesn't want to loose out so she sticks with MetroPCS.

The only place they have call signal issues is IN the house.

She bought a Wilson Desktop Signel Booster. It did NOTHING for her phone and not much for the kids. It boosted the hell out of my Sprint Epic Touch though. I normally get one or so bars in the basement and it went upto like 3 bars.

Wasn't working for her so she returned it and got the ZBoost 545. Again it boosted the HELL out of my Sprint phone, I'm looking at 3 to 4 bars and Open Signal Maps tells me I'm sitting at 65~75% signal.

Seems to do nothing for my wife. Her calls are still broken in the house. Here is one thing I noticed though. Her signal will go from 10~18%, up to the mid/high 40~60% range then drop back off to 10~18% again. It does this every minute or so.

Also, she can NOT stay connected to our home wireless. It drops on and off wifi about every 30~60 seconds. If she stays connected to the wifi, her battery is dead in an hour or so.

Also, even if she gets 4G, the MAX I've seen on a speed test anywhere, here, downtown, whatever is like 300 to maybe 800kbps and that is not consistent.

She went to MetroPCS ans they updated here phone, no help. They decided to get her a replacement under warranty which will be in Monday, but this will already be her 3rd phone, she cracked the screen on the first one about a month after getting it and that one did ALL the same things with the signal strength, wifi issues and slow 4G.

The kids have major signal issues at the house too. Doesn't look like the signal boosters are that affective for them either.

Is there any reason having Sprint and MetroPCS on the same booster might cause issues or that the booster wouldn't work right for the MetroPCS phones? Again it's the ZBoost 545 and it's advertised as working on SPRINT and METROPCS.

Very frustrating. There is no way my wife's going to move to a new carrier with all the investment she has now. MetroPCS is eh, OK in this area, just IN OUR house.

We actually sell the z booster at my store. If you look at the frequencies supported you'll see that metro's spectrum isn't supported by it. It also says no 4g support.

Well I realize it doesn't support 4G LTE, it's not the LTE model but everywhere I'm reading it says it supports Sprint, MetroPCS, ATT, T-Mobile etc.

OK I just did a quick Google search and I'm seeing that MetroPCS is 1900 mhz... This says it supports 1900 mhz.

Also, I just looked at some sites selling this and some just say 800~850mhz and 1900mhz and others list Sprint, Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, Cricket and MetroPCS by name for this model of ZBoost.

What am I missing here?

Oh and I found this for my wifes phone:

less detail
LTE (4G)
1700 AWS / band 4 (IV) Americas
1900 PCS / band 2 (II) Americas

CDMA (2G / 3G)
850 Cellular / BC0 Americas, Oceania, Brazil, Israel

How do I know which it's using?
1700 AWS / BC15 Americas
1900 PCS / BC1 Americas

Do you have a steel roof on your house? I just had one put on my house in March and my signal strength went from 3-4 bars to 0-1. Usually 0 bars. I do get 4 bars if I go to the bathroom and put my phone in the window, and I get dropped calls I never got before.

Grand Rapids, Michigan.

No steel roof, just a standard wood roof with shingles.

Sorta hoping apeiron can give me some more info about his comment about this not supporting MetroPCS. I'm curious because I thought it did from everything I've read. Can you tell me more about the frequencies bro? :)

Might be a different model. I checked one out and some quick specs and saw 2100 which wouldn't be supported. Maybe I'm losing my mind lol

Actually, the dual-band zBoosts do support Metro PCS. Anything on CEL or PCS frequencies are supported. The only frequency zBoost doesn't support it iDEN- which are the Sprint push-to-talk phones.

Also, they have a new booster coming soon for 4G/LTE support. Their site says it's called YX550-VLTE-AWS so I guess be on the lookout if you're having data trouble.
