External Storage?

I just bought a 16GB Nexus 7 and after searching here learned of OTG cables that allow one to convert from MicroUSB to USB for plugging-in flash drives and the like. I hate the idea of using, and having to carry-around some cludgy dongle like that.

Does anyone know of a flash drive that has a microUSB plug? I have searched here and online to avail and hope maybe someone here would just know. Thanks.

I use an otg cable of a few inches length, combined with a mSD to usb converter, literally the size of a usb connector. So all you're basically carrying is an otg cable, the mSD cards and converter add practically nothing.
mSD cards mean unlimited storage, but I'm not actually using them. I only forsee need for some of my old mSD cards for taking movies on a trip or something.

I agree. That's the scenario I'm thinking about.

So far, 16GB is enough though I'd love to have 32GB. If they announce a firm date in the next 12 days (return window) I'm getting one and won't have to worry about any sort of dongle. :D

Just buy these two items online, and you're all set, without having a bulky wire hanging off your tablet. The entire thing is only about an inch long. It cost me less than $14 on Ebay, (incl shipping) including the 16GB Sandisk flash drive.

I have the dongle, and just FYI you need to be pretty careful when that's in the USB port because you could easily hit/knock it and it could damage your microusb port.

Hence why I use the same size usb, but an otg cable instead. Because of the way it sits, it's a lot safer.

Not to worry; if this gets knocked at all, it simply comes harmlessly away from the port without damaging either the port or the adapter in any way.

I dare you not one, but 2 Internet points to make a video of that :p
Lay the N7 flat on a table with the stick protruding from the edge. Hold the tablet down and give the stick a firm vertical whack at falling speed.
Something will break. Structurally or visible. Do that a few times and it'll be broken.

I know I'd be careless enough to break my connector in a month's time like that :p

Yes indeed it's easy enough to bust your N7. But, since if I'm watching or listening to media I'm not moving it around much, it works for me with IMO a reasonable degree of safety. If I'm playing "Dead Trigger" though, no dongle! :D

I thought the connector looked wrong (mini vs. micro) but it was a whole two dollars including shipping for the adapter. No sweat.

I never thought about the cable serving to save the jack. I'm rethinking my 'anti-dongle' philosophy now but big decisions like that shouldn't be taken in haste... 8-)

Can you please provide links for these two items? Thanks.
