Help Has 4.1.2 slowed anyone's Nexus down?

I'm having some lag issues ever since I received the OTA 4.1.2 update. I'm so used to the "butter" but now it seems like it hangs whenever I press the Back button (stays glowing for a couple seconds before it registers) and even opening and closing apps has some lag issues.

At first I thought it was because I was running low on available storage space (had a little over 1gb remaining) but then I deleted 7gb of music off so now I have 8.whatever gb of space remaining, but same issues.

Any ideas? I'm unlocked and rooted but no custom rom or anything so I doubt that's the issue. I had to re-root after the OTA but there were no issues in that sense.

I agree.. my wife's updated and I feel like project butter is gone. Mine side by side with hers is so obvious. Mine in 4.1.1 is much smoother and responsive. I feel like swiping on her hone screen stutters or doesn't complete the swipe. Not wanting to update my tablet right now.

Mine is still going normally. Have you tried a factory reset?

Since you're rooted try a custom kernel

Haven't tried a factory reset but don't really want to either. I rooted for the purpose of being able to use USB-OTG, not get into the nuances of recoveries, backing up, restoring, etc...

I've heard Motley is the best kernel for the N7, but I'd rather keep my Nexus as stock as possible. I've spent a lot of time rooting and crackflashing my Galaxy Nexus, I don't want to start with my 7 also lol

I shouldn't have to factory reset or run a custom ROM or recovery. Don't get me wrong as I came from the OG Droid and all about flashing but a simple update like this should cause these issues. I have rooted and unlocked my GNex purely for timely updates not waiting for Verizon and to have tether. I do not need to keep up with 2 GNex's and 2 Nexus 7s.

A factory reset after taking an ota has been known to fix many issues for a variety of devices. If you don't want to, that's fine.

Nobody's forcing anyone to do anything here. I'm just offering you a time tested solution to common ota issues.

i upgraded to 4.1.2 and today everything slows down.launcher not responds for a few seconds.booting up is too slow. all apps are freezing time to time.. how to downgrade to 4.1.1?? please help

I've noticed some strange freezes. For example, yesterday I was using Plume to go through my Twitter feed and came across a link I was interested in so I had Plume send it to Chrome. Chrome began opening the link and just froze for 10, 15 seconds. I got impatient and swiped the screen up and down several times. Eventually I got the not responding popup but that was just as I noticed the screen scrolled from my impatient swiping. It was like the tablet's GUI froze but the "not responding" timer continued and issued the popup once the the GUI "came back".

I repeated this with Firefox to about the same result. This happens often. I tried formatting the cache partition with no improvement. Really don't want to wipe the device since I use it all the time and have no desire to get everything back to how I've tweaked it.

I was about 10 feet from my router and had full wifi bars.

Unlocked and rooted but otherwise stock.

Had no problems since updating, apart from trying to open pictures from the sky news app and it comes back saying 'not responding' and closes the app.

Mine was running poorly after the update, soft reset sorted it out (hold the power button until it restarts).
The wifi/bt/gps/sync/brightness panel was misbehaving also.

Battery life since the update has been slightly worse, soft reset didn't change this. I think the problem here is that when scrolling through the screen brightness control, OFF is actually brighter than Auto most of the time. I don't understand why they changed this!!!!

Wouldn't that, in theory, wipe your files off the SD card?

I ended up just flashing Bugless Beast onto my Nexus. Got rid of the lag plus more lol

Not according to the app Forever Gone that was recommended in the article on Drippler. It only deals with the free space.

Mine is stock (not rooted) and the update to 4.1.2 did not slow it down one bit. I returned mine (had it for only 10 days) as I want to get the rumoured 32 GB model if that gets released.

Mine seems OK apart from Chrome which has always been the weak link. I haven't found a browser with look and feel I prefer yet though apart from stock JB but I can't be bothered rooting etc these days.

I've noticed this from day one... I posted on the update thread. Completely stock no Roms or root and everything is slower from swiping screens to typing... I have done multiple boots... my next option is a reload I guess.

Much as I want to love Chrome on my N7, I have decided to use Dolphin as my default browser. I use Chrome on my PC, and was hoping to have a transparent experience with the N7 Chrome - but it's just soooo slowwww compared to Dolphin.
