No shortcuts?

Remember how you could long press home screen then choose shortcut (rather than app) then file manager then choose a picture or video or pdf file? Shortcuts!

Check your settings and make sure they are enabled. Otherwise I don't know what else to tell you, they should be there.

They are called icons now. You touch settings / Manage Apps. Scroll down to the app you want an icon (shortcut) for then hold for a few seconds and drag it to the window you want.
There is even an icon called 'My Files' (which is a file manager) which opens up the links to any file on the phone on internal or external media. Including any videos pictures.
Other than that I do not know how to make what you may mean by a shortcut.

If you long press on the home screen in ICS you get options for choosing wallpapers from gallery or live or static. If you choose gallery you can open any picture in your gallery or set it as your wallpaper.
Or you can put an icon on your desktop for the gallery from the apps shortcut at bottom of screen (row of dots in a circle) to open the gallery which holds all your pictures and videos.

If you don't know what I mean by a shortcut try a phone with gingerbread ui.

Almost everyone on here is familiar with the Gingerbread UI. What are aren't familiar with is reading minds. You're question was vague, since you never really explained exactly what you meant by "a shortcut" to a "picture". What we assume you mean by that is you want an icon in the homescreen that, when you click on it, opens that specific picture in the default viewer app. That is pretty esoteric, and it's not unreasonable to ask for clarification. If that is not what you mean, please explain what you want so we can help.

If this is what you want to do, ES File Explorer can make the shortcuts for you. Just browser to the file you want, long press it, select shortcut and move the newly made shortcut where you want it.

Probably. I wouldn't do that but I don't see why shortcuts were dumped in ICS. I also liked adding apps with long press of home screen rather than drag and drop from app drawer. It just seems like a lot of ICS changes were change for the sake. Of change rather than actual improvements. I wouldn't go back to gb because it doesn't handle multiple core processors properly.

No, the current scheme for widgets is by far much better. Remember in Gingerbread how there is about a minute lag time between selecting "add widget" and the list loading. You can also SEE all the available widgets before placing them. It might not be better at doing everything you want, but it is a vast improvement over what it was.

I couldn't disagree more

Exactly what facts do you disagree with? The fact that you can see the available widgets now when you couldn't before? Or the fact that there was significant lag (atleast when you have allot of widgets installed) when loading the widgets menu in GB when there is no lag now?

Look, you have every right to your opinion on whether you prefer how you add widgets in GB versus ICS. However your opinion doesn't change the fact that ICS has in fact made a number of substantive improvements in how you add widgets.

I disagree that the ICS method of adding widgets is in any way better. I had no lag adding widgets in gingerbread using Thundershed 1.4 in my Tbolt. It is a matter of opinion which is preferable, not fact.

I switched to Go Launcher to get the old method of adding widgets back. The only major disadvantage I note in Go Launcher is there is a delay when launching the app drawer. I also can't use the circles widget now but all in all I think I prefer Go Launcher. I also find it easier to add apps to folders in Go Launcher.

It is so ,much better to be able to see what widget you want to add with a preview before you add it... and there is no lag when adding them..what more do you want?

It takes forever scrolling through all the widget icons. I prefer just a list of names. That more than takes up the time of any "delay" (that I never noticed).
Hey, I solved the problem with Go Launcher. It has shortcuts and traditional method of adding apps, widgets, and shortcuts. I'm perfectly happy. Just don't try to convince me the ICS method of adding widgets is "better". It's different. You prefer it. I don't. I still love my Razr Maxx HD!
