Help Ring & Vibrate When Receiving SMS Messages?

Guzzi

Lurker
Hi, I've been having a problem that I can't seem to find anywhere. Whenever I receive a text message when my sound is turned on, it will make the normal notification sound, but will also vibrate at the same time. This really annoys me and I can't find any way to turn it off. I searched through all the sound and messaging settings and can't any kind of setting that may be turned on that could be causing this. There is an option under the messaging settings that says "Also vibrate when notified", and unchecking this fixes the problem when sound is on, but if I have it unchecked when my phone is set to vibrate, then it is completely silent when I receive messages. Also, under the sound settings, there is a setting called "Sound and Vibrate". However, having this setting either on or off doesn't seem to change anything at all. If anyone has any ideas as to what is causing this to happen, or if I'm just overlooking something really simple, I would greatly appreciate some help. It's driving me crazy!

You have already answered your question. It will either be on or off. You can not have both. This is by design.

I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say, so I'll try to state is more clearly. Having "Also vibrate when notified" turned off does fix the problem, only when sound is on. If I want to set my phone to vibrate, then my phone does not vibrate when I receive messages and is just silent. So fixing my initial problem only creates a new one. Ideally, I want the phone to vibrate when it is set to vibrate (since that's the point, duh), and not vibrate when sound is on. I figure resetting the phone to factory default would fix it, but I don't really want to lose everything.

Most apps will have setting for sound and vibrate, which will over ride the Main settings of the phone, again by design. The only way would be each time you want vibrate only is to set the app at that time and the same with sound only. Sorry.

This is really bugging me too. But, unfortunately, this is a Jelly Bean feature which I consider a bug. In ICS it all worked fine.

since JB they also have a vibrate option in the messaging app, in the messaging app hit menu, settings, than scroll down to notification settings
