Help Email App brightness?

I'm not sure why and I can't find anything in the settings but in the stock email app for some reason when I open it and am in the standard inbox view the screen darkens? But if I go into the settings for email it brightens back up to what I have it set as? How come when viewing emails and stuff it goes dark?

I ran into this with the browser. Turned out that I had to be IN the browser, then use the soft (left) menu button to go through the Browser settings (in addition to the main brightness settings on the notification bar). Perhaps it's the same for email?

Do you know what setting you changed? I noticed the browser is the same it goes darker and when I clicked the menu at and set the brightness to full (within the browser) it was still darkened?

Never mind I figure it out, for anyone else that has this problem what causes it is the Power Saving function, Background Colour, just turn that off or turn Power Saving off (if you have it on) and the Email app and Browser won't be darkened any more.

Spooky, i had the same issue and found the same result yesterday. Hadnt used the stock email app before as i always used the official hotmail app from microsoft +Seven. My battery life has been really poor since jelly bean update and when i checked battery stats using gsam battery monitor it showed that the hotmail app is a massive drain on battery, wakelocks show it is almost constantly pulling power. So i uninstalled it and set up the stock email app and found it dimmed email screen bit this then carried over into all screens when i exited email. Anyway did this yesterday morning and now 24 hours later i still have 37% battery left so well pleased.

I think it's worth mentioning that I didn't have this problem before I updated to Jellybean. I was on Android 4.0 before and the email app wouldn't dim unless I had that option set.
Now it will dim even though that option is off unless I manually disable the Power Save function.

Just to be clear, this doesn't bother me that much, but it is a noticeable difference after upgrading.
