Need help from a pro on launchers

I should probaly know this but I dont. I know what a launcher is but not really how they work. My question is that I want to install Nova launcher. On my gnex i know it was fine because of the phone being stock. But how does it work with these skins? What are the disadvantages of using a launcher when you have a skin? I think the skin is still running? so does that use up resources? Or does installing Nova shut down Blur totally?

I know i can use Nova but what am I doing or losing out on by installing on this skined phone. Hard to explain what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

Works the same way as it did on the nexus.... The nexus has a launcher just like this phone, albeit a "stock" launcher. It covers up the launcher that ships with the phone on either one... One thing that I'd recommend is clearing the home screens on the stock launcher before applying and using a third party launcher.

Thanks Roll-Tide. Not for this case but just so I know (you seem to know about this sort of thing). What are the disadvantages or using a launcher over a skin? Rather than using it over another launcher (like my old Gnex)? Or does it not make anydiffernce at all? I'm wondering why people complain about skins so much if you can just use another launcher and suffer nothing from it. there has to be something we are losing or missing when we do this? (I know you can't use some of the skins widgets when you pick another launcher). Does it slow down the phone? (even if only a little bit)?

That's the only negative I've ever noticed.... The inability to use the widgets the manufacturer's skin comes with. The Motorola "skin" is the lightest of all the manufacturers and is really really close to stock Android so you should see no ill effects at all. I've used 3rd party launchers on every phone I've had... Even HTC phones with sense, and I've never seen any disadvantages other than the widget thing.

For what it's worth, I've been using holo launcher hd for a while now... Even on my s3 I had and I like it a lot. Holo, nova, and apex are all really similar but I had force close issues with apex so I switched... Haven't had one problem with holo, and I'm even using the holo lock screen too with no issues.

Perfect!!!!!!! Thanks very much. Thats what I need to hear to put my mind at ease (i'm a weirdo about that kind of stuff). Unless i know it's 100% correct, I won't feel safe using it. Now I feel safe, thanks
