Factory reset on SIII

Ever since updating to JB it seems that the phone lags an awful lot, forces closes apps such as FB and gallery and keeps losing my wifi connection.

I've been told to reset the device. What's the best way of backing up? I've my contacts backed up through Kies, photos saved to Dropbox. What about messages, what's the best way to do that?

More importantly, is resetting the phone actually worth the hassle? Will it resolve these issues for me?

I think there are apps on Google Play that will back up messages- try doing a search. Another option that might help the phone is to clear the cache & dalvik cache, but you need to be rooted & have a custom recovery to do this I believe. It might be possible to do it via ADB over USB, but not totally sure about this. Easiest thing is to get those messages backed up & just do the reset.
