My S3 is dead, very very dead.

Hi all,

Can anyone help me? This morning I woke up to find my S3 unresponsive. It had been on charge all night so the battery should have been on 100%. I plugged it into another charger, still unresponsive. I have a spare battery so I put that in and still no response. Plugged the phone into the PC, PC won't recognise the phone, neither does Kies. I tried holding down the power/home/volume buttons to do a reset - nothing.

I'd really rather not have to go in to the Phones4U that I bought it from because they are pretty useless, so does anyone have anything I can try to revive my phone? It is UK, unbranded, on official jelly bean 4.1.1. I have never tried to root it or flash anything, there is loads of phone storage free and was working fine last night...I have no idea what has happened!

Thanks.

Did you try both recovery and download mode. There's been the odd occasion for me where recovery mode (volume up, home and power) wouldn't work but it booted into download mode (volume down, home and power) fine.

Yep, tried both of those. My phone is quite cold...maybe I'll try leaving it in a warm room and see what happens. I rang Samsung customer support and they're sending me an envelope to send the phone in for repair, but I'm a bit worried they'll decide I need to pay something, even though I haven't damaged the phone in any way. I'm not sure I trust them, so I'd like to try and fix it before the envelope comes if that's possible.

youll be fine if you not rooted, have a 0 flash count, no physical or water damage hard for them to say it was you

Well, I have never dropped it in water or spilled anything on it ever. But I worry in case they detect water damage because of humidity or something else that just happens. The water damage indicator behind my battery is white with blue Xs on it, is that how it is supposed to be?

Yeah that's how it's supposed to be. If the phone is water damaged the dye will bleed out from the x

Thank you, at least I don't have to worry about that! I have no idea what has happened to my phone, it's a bit worrying that it can be perfectly fine one minute, then leave it to charge and it completely dies at only 4 months old.

Maybe a power surge killed it?

I thought about that but I'm not sure it could have been a power surge because nothing else has been affected in the house and my partner has an S3 too and that was charging at the same time and hasn't died.

Maybe your phone got roofied

My phone is currently away for repair with the same problem. Unrooted, No water damage detection via the sticker. Had it on charge, woke up, unresponsive. Tried all the solutions you tried and nothing. I also purchased my S3 from Phones 4 You. Out of curiosity what color was yours?

It's the white one. When did you get your phone? I got mine a couple of days after they were released, maybe they're from the same batch or something.

Sorry it happened to you too, but I'm a little relieved that my phone isn't the only one because it means maybe Samsung will know what is wrong with it and can easily fix it.

I too am relieved, i got mine on release day so i would expect theyre on the same batch. i posted mine off with CPW cos they are the closer stores for repairs..... someone just posted this on the vodafone forum:

'CPW do not do the water damage thing they have there head screwed on and many have attended the Samsung training
This sounds like the phones internal Bios has failed very strange
CPW work similar to Samsung service centers and as its under warranty a second tier needs to get involved they may replace this or Flash the phones Bios on again
Now here is the catch if the phone has been tampered with e.g. rooted or a custom rom they will get in touch and may charge
But if you have don none of the above then you will get it back'

I guess its good that this thread isnt so popular as that means not many s3s are troubling with the problem.... yet

Same problem with mine this morning, came down and it had a green light on but nothing working.

Done all the above apart from trying reset / boot things and it's completely dead :(

Mine has been fixed through Carphone warehouse. All i was told is that the PBA was exchanged......

@jayces10 did u get yours from phones4you aswell?

I'm glad yours is fixed. I am sending mine off to Samsung tomorrow, I didn't go through Phones4U to get it fixed because they're a bit useless. Samsung were quite helpful, I hope they can fix it.

Just an update - I got my phone back from Samsung the other day - it has had a new mainboard put in, which was covered by the warranty.

I think it must have been a problem with early batches of the phone.
