Help Formatting SD card and transferring files

dportland

Newbie
Just installed a SanDisk 64 GB sd card in my phone but I have no idea what to do next and was hoping someone could help me out. When I go into settings and storage, the card shows up just fine and shows 59.45GB total space.

My questions are:
1. Does this mean I don't need to format it since it's already recognized?
2. How do I go about transferring my files to the card? Do I need to plug my phone into my computer to do so and install any drivers or anything like that? Or do I need an app to help perform that function? Or can i do it right on my phone (hopefully) and keep it simple that way?
3. Once it's set up properly, will files automatically save to the new card or must I set them to?

This is the card, if it makes a difference: Amazon.com: SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s with Adapter SDSDQUA-064G-U46A: Computers & Accessories

Thanks in advance for your help!

you could format it in the phone jsut to be sure, and if you use a windows PC yes you just plug in and drag files from your computer over to the card

From what I've been hearing/reading if the card is recognized like it has been I won't need to format it, is it strongly suggested that I do or is there something that could go wrong if I don't? Also you mentioned windows and I have a macbook, does that make a difference? Final question, if I drag and drop them into the SD card on my laptop, will they still remain on the internal memory and simply be copied to the new card so that I have to delete them off internal memory still? Thanks for your help man. Great username by the way, Breaking Bad is the shit!

your probably right if it sees the card your fine, but it takes 4 seconds to format it than you know its good to go.

I also have a Mac so no its not as easy as plug and go, if your still on 10.6.8 or older you can use the program Android File Transfer to see you phone/Card when you plug into your Mac.

If your on 10.7 and higher like me, i use Samsung Kies, Samsung Kies is almost like iTunes you can add music, movies and pictuers right from the Samsung Kies interface, also when you plug into Kies the main screen should show your usage on both the internal and external drives, click the folder beside what ever drive you want to see and it will pop up a window like a Finder window with all the folders and you can be more specific to where you want to drag and drop your files
