Help S3 beeping during calls and then after

HTC foot

Newbie
Hi all,

I've searched for this but come up blank for this specific fault.
Phone is about a month old and on Vodaphone contract. It worked fine until JellyBean OTA update. Now on regular occasions it will start to double beep every 4-5 seconds when i receive a phone call and then continue to beep after wards and until i restart the phone.
It's not beeping through the main speaker though, only through the phone earpiece speaker so it's not majorly audible unless you have the phone to your ear.
The caller can hear it also.
It will continue to beep irrespective of any volume settings including turning sounds off completely.
It continues when the phone goes to sleep.
It appears to have an effect on normal sound functions like when you swipe the screen to unlock it and you get the watery noise, that seems to be quite muted in comparison to normal when it's doing it.

No credit cards near it, no alarms set, it's not the minute minder 'cos it's every 4-5 seconds.

Re-starting the phone stops it until another call is received then it starts again and can't be silenced without re-starting the phone.

Heeeeelllllppppppp!!!!!!

Never heard of that before :S:. Does the phone have Vodafone branding on, ie is it Vodafone's own version of the S3's Jelly Bean?

Know it's a hassle but, have you tried resetting/restoring the phone to see if that solves it?

Check this..

open your phone app and choose settings/call status tones. Are any of those checked?

The beeps happened to me and I found that I had the call connect and call end tone checked off. But it only beeped when I first dialed and then again when the call ended. I unchecked them and they stopped. This *might* be what is happening, although I am not sure why it happens every 5 seconds... the 1 minute thing I can understand if it is checked off.

It's worth a try!

It doesn't have any markings on the phone itself and unlike my old HTCDHD it doesn't have a Vodafone splash screen on power up either. In fact the only way i can see to tell it's Vodafone at all is to go into app's and it has the usual My Vodafone, Discover, MyWeb etc. 'Scuse my ignorance but how would i know if it's a branded update?
In device details it says 4.1.1 for version, kernel version 3.0.31-256827. No mention of Vodafone anywhere.

I as hoping to avoid the factory reset option if possible but i may have to if a known solution isn't forthcoming.

I'd looked at this too and I do have call end tone ticked but that's just a single beep, mine double beeps and it's all the way through the call and even after the call ends, until i restart the phone. I'll give it a go though, it can't hurt to try it.

It's just odd it's never done this before the update. Maybe coincidence, i don't know.

Thanks for the replies, all info greatly appreciated.

Ok. quick update.

It's done this again twice over the weekend so i've tried to re-create it by getting my wife to ring me, tried from landline etc but it appears it's not all incoming calls it does it on.

Whilst it was beeping away after a call i decided to go through and test every app that makes a noise. I got to "Spoken Name" (announces caller and SMS sender) and went through the settings etc and then came to test the voice output - nothing. All other apps that made a noise still made their appropriate noises when tested (albeit much quieter when the beeping fault was happening), this one didn't. Significant i wondered?

Anyway i've uninstalled it for now and had two calls since then and not had the recurring beeping. Not a definitive fix as yet because it didn't do it all the time anyway, but thought i'd post it up all the same.

:DI had a problem with a "beeping" that was the same tone played when you connect the charging cord. The beeping was non stop. I had this problem in my car when I attached the charging cord. I was using a generic 12 cigarette lighter to USB adapter. I suspect it was over voltage... When I went to a different adapter all problems ceased.
Just what worked for me.:D
