Root [International Tegra 3] Battery is still crap

Hey there

I honestly gave up. I have been trying ROMs, kernels, tweaks, and everything but the battery life is just terrible.

I have mainly been using Team Venom's Viper ROM, though, and yesterday I decided to install Alex-V's kernel with s2w feature or w.e. It is supposed to work well with Viper and be very stable. However, I am not seeing it and the battery life seems to have gotten worse. Also some applications like File Explorer randomly quit (Application has stopped working).

My screen brightness is not even set to automatic, but very, very low so I don't know how it is eating 72% of the battery and why it dropped all that much in just 9 damn minutes!

Is there a way to uninstall Alex-V's kernel and get back the stock one that came with the ROM or do I have to reflash the ROM?

A : Simply flash whatever kernel you want using the "boot.img" from this ROM here : ARHD [it's what i am using] and runs stock kernel !

- You may have a hardware issue [some component/s are eating up too much battery]
- You may have some program/s that are eating too much battery
- You may have this : WI-FI ISSUES and from what i've read, sucks the life out of the battery [even when using GSM Data - it's an antenna issue]

What do you mean by flash whatever kernel using the boot.img from that ROM? I actually downloaded Android Revolution HD 12 before if that's any help and I kept the files.

By the way, I flashed the kernel using some tool (application) that was created by a user on XDA forums where you just connect the phone, browse for the kernel, and it flashes it for you.
 
I flash the boot.img [that is what you do with S-ON devices] using android sdk or equivalent soft... the boot.img contains the kernel among other stuff, boot.img is located within the rom .zip file.
 
I met up with my friend yesterday in order to attempt and fix some problems on his newly purchased One X and realised he downloaded ARHD 15 but did not install it. So I followed the steps in the tutorial but it wouldn't work. After flashing boot.img, installing the ROM from recovery and such, it would get stuck in a bootloop.

After lots of trial and error, I realised that he had an old version of Clockwork recovery so I flashed the latest one, mounted the SD card, copied Viper for him and it worked fine after installation. Now I am thinking it most probably was the recovery that made ARHD not work. I actually took a copy of that ROM so I might be trying it tomorrow or so.

I have gotten used and accustomed to Viper, though, and I completely hated CynanogenMod, for instance, because I thought it was sloppy and not as organised as Viper. Would you be so kind as to take a couple of screen shots of your ARHD for me?

If that's okay with you, may you please take a screen shot of the drawer, lockscreen, main homescreen, bottom of the Settings menu (because some ROMs don't have the Connect to PC thing and I had no idea how to mount SD card using them), Power, and finally how much free memory you have at the moment?

Sorry for all the requests it's just that I am interested in seeing SS of how the ROM looks but I don't want to skim through 3400+ pages on XDA forums for that! :D

Do you remember what the stock software looked like before you rooted? It's exactly like that, it's the stock ROM but with a lot of under the hood tweaks and battery improvements.

Unless you've had the Sense JB Hboot on your phone, I'm relatively sure you'd need to install ARHD 9.7.2 (or whatever the last ICS version of it was).

So which version of ARHD is going to work on my device? By the way, I've read a lot of posts on XDA saying that NCX Kernel is the best for battery life. Is that true? Have you had any experience with it?
 
If that's your hboot, that should work with the latest AHRD I think.

It might be good for your battery life, but iirc, NCX overclocks the GPU, underclocks , overclocks the LP and undervolts everything. Undervolting I can live with to an extent, but I'm not a big fan of overclocking. It might be completely safe, but it's not really my cup of tea.
 
Well I guess there's no harm in trying to flash the latest ARHD after backing up with Titanium Backup as well as CWM. Is there a way to save my home screen preferences, though? I use folder organizer to add folders to the home screen which already have applications inside them, and I can export/import these folders and options (like which applications are in which folders), would that be enough to do it?
 
After reading the ARHD thread, I concluded that if I want to update, I'll have to update the hboot version from 1.28 to 1.31.

"++ Relock Bootloader:

fastboot oem lock

++ Flash the firmware (hboot version needed)

fastboot flash zip oneX_hboot_1.33.zip
fastboot flash zip oneX_hboot_1.33.zip (2 times)

++ Unlock the bootloader:

fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin

++ Flash the recovery:

fastboot flash recovery oneX_recovery_5.8.4.0.img

++ Flash the boot.img (you can find it on XDA thread or extract from the Rom.zip):

fastboot flash boot boot.img

fastboot erase cache"

There's also an instructions video, but unfortunately there are things in the video that I am not aware of and don't understand. For instance, he has a folder called Android-SDK-Windows or whatever which I don't have. And I tried Googling and came up with several guides and each of them use different methods, but most use "JBFWTOOL17.zip" which I am currently downloading.

Is there an easy, non-complicated way to update the HBOOT? I am also aware that if I update to 1.31, I cannot revert back since it is an S-ON device.

Right now I have the ARHD 15 ROM and Super Wipe in my SD card and I have the files that contain the boot.img I am supposed to flash in order for the ROM to actually boot "Flash_boot_15.x_0.1".

I also supposedly have JBFWTOOL17.zip now. What am I supposed to do? How do I go about this? The video is just making me confused.
 
Never mind I successfully updated the HBOOT and flashed Android Revolution HD 15. You were absolutely right, you cannot install it unless you have 1.31 (or higher, depending on your device and whether it is international locked, etc.).

Hey, I came across this thread and just a little while back I had tried flashing faux's kernel and had some trouble with it. I ended up flashing a stock kernel (which I thought Viper used as well on Venom X) and my phone works fine now except the battery life isn't as good as what it used to be before I flashed the kernel. So after I read this, I flashed Viper's boot.img (just for their kernel) but got stuck in a bootloop. I tried Alex-v's kernel then and now I'm stuck on the bootscreen. Any suggestions?

Brave man for flashing new firmware, that's probably the only thing I'd be scared about doing :p

There's no harm in trying NCX btw, it just wasn't really for me. :)
 
Nah.. I don't understand the whole overclocking and underclocking thing so I'd rather stay away as well. Hopefully the official JB update will come out soon! :D

Every ROM comes with it's own BOOT.img [boot.img contains the kernel !!]
You need to stick with your rom's boot.img [kernel] OR search for "repacked" kernels for that specific ROM !
If you want a 99.99% safe/solid/stable kernel, go ARHD ! [it's stock, stable and fast !]

Nice to see another enjoy ARHD [mike's work] !
The JB [official] update should be out until 10 december [i think] for all unbranded HOX users !
