Help Weather Channel uses 20% of CPU

I'm using the widget and I ran a battery analysis and it shows The Weather Channel app/widget using 21% of the battery. Is there a way to decrease this or an alternate application for getting the weather?

WeatherBug Elite.

I installed Weatherbug and it looks like it uses 3% battery which is a lot better than 21% but I kind of wonder why weather apps use up power when they're not being run.

They are still updating the weather in the background.

I would download an app like gsam battery monitor or better yet better battery stats and let it run for a few days and see what kind if readout it gives you

Most have sync settings. I never sync more than once per hour (for any app). They sync when you open the app. Some let you turn off sync at night. In 2 days mine hasn't hit 1% yet.

I didn't see updating options on The Weather Channel. The weather app you're using looks pretty nice on controlling updates.

Getting rid of The Weather Channel noticeably improves battery life. I checked it this evening when I got home and battery was fully charged - that usually doesn't happen - it's usually down some noticeable amount when I get home.
