Was rooted on ICS. Had VoodooOTA installed and protected root. After OTA to JB Voodoo was unable to restore root.

Anyone else?

Did you update you SU binary in the superuser app before protecting root? Should have been version 3.1.1. Also, did you temp unroot before installing the update? I did both and was able to root just fine after taking the update.

I did all of that too but update fails for some reason. this is strange and annoying

I'm running 3.1.3. I did not unroot before OTA...didn't know I had to.

I am rooted, have installed Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, did the Temp. un-root, but the update is failing. I unfroze all apps prior and everything looks ok, although I notice in Titanium that there is a file showing deleted mot.app.admin which I do not recall deleting. Could this be the issue?

I am on Droid Razr MAXX HD, 4.0.4, sys ver 0.7.2.XT926.Verizon.en.US.

Any suggestions?

Well, there's some debate as to whether you need to or not. All I can say is that I did temp unroot before applying the OTA and I had not problem restoring root.

So I'm screwed...until someone comes up with a quick root for JB.?.

I'm in your same boat, had Voodoo protecting my root and 3.1.3 SU and lost root when the update came. Interested to know if you find anything.

I've heard a couple times that a solution is to return to ICS, get root again, and then re-update. Anybody know how to return to ICS?

You have to update Superuser to 3.1.3 via Play Store and the su binary to 3.1.1 via the Superuser program itself. Then create a su backup and select the temp unroot option. I went through this several times on a RAZR M trying to preseve root while updating to JB

Make sure you didn't disable any programs via Titanium Backup or anything.

This tool is all you need. It will take a little bit of time and also require a wipe of all data, but if you want root on jelly bean, it's your only way for now.

resetting phone to factory then will try to update to JB. of course I will try to temp unroot and hope it works

nope still can't update wtf

Edit: for those who cant update to jb try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970267. DL the utility and follow instructions I had to revert to stock and start over with fresh root then temp unroot with voodoo.

Dwnldd the utility. Error mess when runnung first utility stating "Fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command. I looked at the phone's AP Fastboot screen and it shows the Device:LOCKED Do I need to unlock and how is it done?

Are you safestrapped? I'm guessing maybe.

Device should be LOCKED, STatus Code:0

Make sure you are connected to usb/computer before fastboot.

Transfer Mode should be : USB Connected.

I'd open a dos prompt then navigate to the directory and then launch the batch file, or run it as administrator if using newer windows.

Root on the OTA works just fine.

Pre OTA, root it, install voodoo, do not backup.

Make sure to ONLY use the superuser app that has the green android with an eye patch for the icon.

Update SU.

TEST su with an application to make sure it actually works.

THEN use voodoo to protect the current su binary.

I had a different su installed with the prior OTA candidate leak and used the wrong one to update, that got me backed into a wall once!

Don't think I'm safestrapped being I don't know what that is. Should I clear cache partition and fact reset phone and then try JB update again?

Do you have USB debugging checked under developer options in your phone's settings? This needs to be on for the utility to work.

Just wanted to thank all of you for your input being I'm new to the droid and was able to collectively pull from and use all of the info. Got the utility to work and JB is done with root restored. THANKS !!

Question. I see #4 is Safestrap. What is that and is it best to install as well?

Safestrap allows you to backup your stock rom and flash custom roms on Motorola phones, including the Razr HD/Maxx HD. I have not installed it on my phone since I'm pretty happy with Moto's version of the stock rom, which I find pretty lean and close enough to AOSP. Of course, if I ever get bored...:p

Here's a pretty good guide to Safestrap:
