How to switch to new phone and move apps

Hello. I am a new android user and I am going to be switching to the note 2 but I was wondering how the apps will transfer to the new phone. I am a previous iPhone user and switching phones was simple. Just wondering about how to go about this with my samsung galaxy s3.

I have a question about how this works. Do I need to do any setup for the backup to Google to work? When I get the new phone, how do I access the backup and restore? Thanks.

You're going to see all your app info when you first associate your new phone with your Google ID.

As to backing up and restoring - that's something best suited for your cloud or card storage. If you save app data to your card, it'll be there for you when you insert the card into your new phone.

Use Dropbox, Box, or any cloud storage you're comfortable with to back up your phone. There are apps that help do that, but I don't use them.

I actually don't use the cloud. It's easy enough to just backup to sd card. Even more, it's actually not hard to transfer most information now through the app Bump. I use it to do almost all my file transfers. It's even better now that you can Bump to your PC so cords are pretty much gone.
