Mounting tv on wall and ran into a problem....

Ok he's the deal. I mounted our bedroom tv and fished the wires behind the wall no problem. Doing the living room and ran into a problem fishing the wires behind the wall. There's a fire block. How do I get my cables through?
 
I hope you're good at patching dry wall! The only way to do it is to cut a hole in the dry wall above and below the fire block. Then drill a hole in the fire block. Thread the wire through the hole in the fire block and patch the holes you made in the wall above and below the fire block. Make sure to keep the pieces you cut out of the wall as they will make patching the hole a lot easier.

As you're working around a fireblock you could cut one big piece out of the wall that spans above, below, and across the fireblock. This will give you more room to drill through the firblock and you'll be able to drill your patch piece of drywall right to the fireblock.

I would just run the cable along the wall and cover it with wall paper. LOL
Then i would use the "The landlord doesnt let me drill holes in the wall" card.

Are you certain your obstacle is a fire block? I've been in construction most of my life and can't imagine a fire stop in that wall. Perhaps if you tried to come down in a different stud cavity you might bypass the obstacle. There is an option I have used in mounting the tv on an existing wall you might consider. Being as the tv is large and it's mount covers considerable wall area... you might cut a hole in the wall about the same size as the mount... using that area to fish your wires... then cover that area with a larger finished plywood or such cover. You will need the cover to be anchored well to the wall for your mount will fasten to it instead of the studs. Your tv will mostly cover the board behind and I don't think you will find it offensive from the side view. Not necessarily as neat as fishing through the wall but perhaps an alternative when all else fails.

I already have the hole behind the tv and near the bottom (near the floor) and fished the wires from below and top. Used a stud finder and found a fire block blocking my wires from reaching the bottom. To make sure I nailed a nail and found the it slightly below the bottom of the tv just to the right of it. So there's definitely a fire block.
 
Have you tried moving over to a different stud cavity? Perhaps the obstruction doesn't go all the way across the wall. What is on the other side of the wall? Is it more kitchen and cabinets?

Monoprice.com is the best. Their cables, etc are unbelievably cheap yet still very good. I buy all my A/V cabling from them.

So, why are the wires not in the wall? All you have to do is follow the steps in the video.

Admittedly, I did try a pumpkin cut a few times when I recently wired up my new house and every time the paper at the top ripped and I ended up with just a hole in the wall.

I've seen construction workers do some pretty dumb things, so maybe it's not all that impossible. Maybe he needs Mike Holmes to come out and Make It Right. :p
