Root [AT&T] Bell SGH-i747mbc - Best Rooting options?

Hello everyone!

I use these forums as my primary go-to source for information when I need help with my GS3, and so far I've gotten a lot of information without requiring posting questions.

I'm here today because I want to root my phone. It's hard to find all the necessary information to educate myself on the best methods and what the best ROM's and kernels are. So I'm asking for help in discovering the best methods to go about upgrading my phone.

I know a lot of you are experienced, and I've found a plethora of posts asking similar questions but they are all out of date (mid 2012) and it's rather difficult to find out what exactly certain things (eg. Unsecure Boot Image, ROM's and Kernels) all do, and how they affect performance.

So I'm with Bell in BC Canada, and I have a SGH-i747MBC. I'm running Android 4.1.1, my Baseband version is I747MVLDLK4, Kernel version 3.0.31-538866
running build JRO03L.I747MVLDLK4

Thanks to anyone who lends a hand in unearthing information!

Thank you!
I actually ended up downloading Samsung GS3 Toolkit and reading all the instructions online for it then followed the instructions to successfully Root my phone. Now I just need to find a working ROM for canadian phones... I'm still trying to learn how to do proper back-ups and what not incase a rom doesn't work as intended, or to change a kernel if something there isn't working right.

Those are things I'm more interested in learning, but there isn't a "Dummies start here" section for ROM's and customizing them to work with your specific phone and carrier. It's elusive and I want to figure it out hah.

This is a good ROM that SHOULD be compatible with your phone. It is compatible with my Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M. CyanogenMod 10.1. By the way, it says AT&T but it works with SGH-I747M.

From what I've read a lot of the AT&T ROM's should be compatible. There might need to be some minor changes to some of the carrier settings but that's where I kinda get lost. I'm not familiar enough (at all) to attempt to change of the files yet. I want to read about it more. I'm still learning how to use TWRP Touch Recovery so I can load files / ROM's / Kernel etc. To be honest, I have no idea how to do it yet haha. I figured out how to root my phone, and that's the extent of what I've figured out at this point.

Get clockwork recovery by locating the .TAR file then flash it with odin. Once you have clockwork recovery, install cm10.1 then move it to the SD card. When you are in clockwork recovery, erase all data then click install zip for SD card. Select the ROM and hit yes. Congrats, you now have Cyanogenmod 10.1! :)

Couldn't I achieve the same thing with TWRP?

Yes. I just said Clockwork Recovery because I prefer it. Sorry for the bias suggestion! :o

No worries, I hear everyone talking about CWR, but it was recommended I get the TWRP because it was touch interface, and did all the same things. (No idea how to use either properly, so in my case it doesn't matter hah)
