Root [Verizon] CleanRom Kernel

TALONTRAX

Android Enthusiast
Just installed/upgraded to CleanRom 5.6. (from 5.1.1). Still running the stock jb kernel. I would like to upgrade the kernel. What Kernels are compatible w/Cleanrom, & what would anyone running one recommend ? Thanks . . .

Installed it just now . . . cool pink Samsung splashscreen ! Used v1.7. Doesn`t seem to support overclocking or voltage tweaks though . . .

So far just RomToolboxPro. It has kernel & cpu tweaks. When I set the sliders to 1900, it won`t stay set. If I check apply at boot & reboot, all stock cpu clocking is still set. Guess I`ll try a different app(s). Recommend any in particular ??

I havent had time to mess with it but System Tuner (thanks to Mikestony) appears to be a pretty detailed app. Find it in Play store...:)

I'm curious to know, how is it that one knows how much to move the sliders to one direction or another? Is it completely 'trial and error' method?

That`s kinda what I think. I`m going to reduce the maximum cpu setting about 10% & watch battery life for a few days. I already have a pretty good "baseline" feel for my current battery life duty cycle, & I will know retalively soon if the cpu decrease effects it, & also if there are any negative effects to perpormance. I agree that this will be a trial & error process, & I will try to keep you updated on any notable progress . . .

And it will vary from phone to phone so yes, it really is trial and error:)

...and as you know, I'm kinda doing a 'trial' thing today as we're trying to get a grip on what is tending to drain my battery life :)

I've been a good boy and haven't plugged in the charger since removing it at 7:00-ish this morning so I'm hoping whatever the culprit, it shows up later as I run the battery stats app!

Update . . . decreased the cpu clock max to 1500, down from 1850. been in standby all day, no phone or sms as of yet so far. Unplugged from charger @ 8:20 am, & as of 3:50 pm today batt @ 98%. This is with no screen or talk time, so difficult to tell if any improvement . . . Encouraging though.

Whoa! 98% after 7+ hours! I'm at 34% after slightly longer than that. Yuk...

Note that`s all standby time, & I only flipped on the screen 5-6 times all day to check the time. What Rom/kernel combo are you running ? Btw . . . what the heck is using 462 mb of cpu ?? Must be the Android system app. I guess . . .

I know!!! It's BAAAADDDD

CleanRom 5.6 lean kernel-vzw-tw-jb-1.8

Same combo I`m running on 2 devices. Dam. Maybe you just have a cycled/memory depleted battery . . . ???

Is this normal cpu usage for being idle . . . ?
