Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I was talking about mobile WiMax networks. Sprint is going to be the first to have a full line of WiMax phones.
Nope and nope. First mobile wimax used was in france (2007), then israel(2007), then usa(2008). First full line up of phones will be russia. Largest consumer base will be India. The next consumer base will be china. LTE is struggling in china or india. The 2.5 spectrum has be already agreed on. So if you want to go to india, your phone will work just fine. Same goes with china. Europe has more problems for lte. LTE has been at a full stop in europe until today. The spectrum was finally auction off. LTE in europe is really unsure. But it is clear that test markets will not be set up until 2012 and commercial until later. Mean while wimax is already working and being sold. Since 2007. That is a 5-7 year jump.

Intel, Motorola, Samsung and more join forces to support WiMAX 2. IEEE pushing 802.16m WiMAX to 1Gbps, hopes to converge with 4G.

A group of companies has finally stepped forward to support the new protocol, and solidify that nice, marketable "WiMAX 2" name while they're at it. Dubbed the WiMAX 2 Collaboration Initiative (or WCI for short), Alvarion, Beceem, GCT Semiconductor, Intel, Motorola, Samsung, Sequans, XRONet, ZTE and ITRI intend to, well, collaborate to make sure the new protocol can compete with LTE, while our old friends Sprint and Clearwire -- who are keeping their options open in the 4G wars -- simply cheer them on.

I do not know for sure if this would work, could you downgrade your plan to the minimum voice plan available, without data, and just pay the monthly fee for the 2 months remaning on your term?

I would call and ask what your ETF would actually be, most providers charge $200; however after the first year it goes down in price per month. I left US Cellular and paid $136 for two lines to jump over to Sprint last April.... Call and see, I bet it would be cheaper to leave and port then keep two lines.

Beside's if you port your line over to Sprint, don't you get a credit of some sort, I'm inclined to say it's a $25 or $50 credit... Don't quote me, I could be wrong. Anyway's look into it, I bet the 10 - 15 min. phone call with AT&T would be worth it. Good Luck!

So I did a little chatting over at Sprint new updated site...

Thanks, RiverOfIce. Good post. WiMAX has a big jump here in the US as well and I see good things coming to Sprint because of it.

Has it always been like that? A few years back I wanted to change my plan (add more minutes) and to do so I had to sign a new 2 year agreement. I wasn't sure I wanted to stay with Sprint so I didn't do it...but I suppose things have changed. Thanks for the clarification.

Just changed my plan from SERO (no company discounts) to the any mobile (with company discounts, I pay less). No upgrade of the contract. Can't wait to use my upgrade for the EVO! :)

Has anybody been able to actually get into the account portion of the new Sprint site? I want to check it out but it still just has that dumb bells & whistles page up.

I don't usually do this (actually never) but this has to be the most mature, friendly, and overall friendly like place that I've seen in years.

First, the Wimax 2 question(WiMax 802.16m) The technology is backwards compatible with the current standard 802.16e, but Sprint and Clearwire aren't fully on board with this standard as yet. Their Plan B is LTE, and they've stated so for years. Personally, they should go aboard this WCI team, and go for the real "4G" technology, and not TD-LTE.

As with the EVO 4G, mostly what Jackson said was correct, and then some. I wish I could spill my guts out, but I'm bound by NDA, and get repeated by this each week. What I will tell you is this. 3 options taking place for the 4G pricing option. 1) Free for Everything Data, Simply Everything, and EPRP plans. 2) Option 1 with Mobile Hotspot being a optional step 3) 4G used is price, with Mobile Hotspot being a part of the package. Personally, Option 2 is what I think will happen.

As for the Simultaneous Voice and Data. That is looking pretty good, and will definitely happen, but I don't know if it will be ready by the release date. WiMax has a separate radio, with CDMA Voice/EvDO Data on the same radio. This is the reason why Voice + Data will not be taking place. All in all, Sprint really has a beast in its hands, and EVO isn't the only beast that Sprint has. *hint hint*

Self Praise,

when you say the three options are "taking place," do you mean "being talked about" or "will be offered to customers...?"

Thanks!

Thanks, Self Praise and welcome to the EVO 4G forum. I appreciate all of your comments.

Jackson told us that on Friday, Sprint is going to start their advertising campaign to make the public aware of the EVO 4G. We're all hoping they come out slugging like Verizon did when they announced the Droid. This phone is so much more newsworthy and when combined with WiMAX is something most tech people aren't going to be able to resist. Jackson also thought we'd know more about pricing and availability on Friday as well, so we're excited and looking forward to the 16th.

Awww come on - we're all just anonymous friends on the internets :D

Thanks for registering and any nuggets of info greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I assume he means three options are being debated internally, one will be what happens - so customers don't get a choice.

Realistically if they charge for tethering people will just have another incentive to root and do some DIY tethering.

Breaking an NDA could equate to complete financial and career ruin. There are things I am under NDA on for my company and my clients. Making one slip can mean billions in lost revenue, due to a competitor getting a leg up.

That being said, I know we all want more details, but not at the risk of putting Sprint at a disadvantage or our forum members :)

Hi guys, I have been following this thread since the beginning and I really can't wait until the EVO comes out. I currently have a CDMA Hero that I have had since December. Since then I have fallen in love with Android. The amount that it can be customized is insane. I am still running 1.5 at the moment since it is rooted. I can only imagine what kind of improvements have been made since then. Prior to the Hero I had a Pre... Long story short, Sprint either had to take that damn phone back or they would lose two lines. The OS was great but the hardware was atrocious.

I am not new to forums and this one seems to be a great place. I look forward to reading more great info from all the insiders that seem to pop their heads in here.

Mike.

Thank you Norril for understanding, and also to the regulars who greeted me with open arms. I don't work for Sprint, but I test numerous phone manufacturers devices, with HTC being one of them. The information I've posted were given to my company by Sprint.
It's just something about this section, that allured me to give out that information.

One more thing. There were talks of Sprint finally getting rid of Mail In Rebate, and having BOGO offers in the future. Let's hope this becomes a reality with Sprint phone prices matching their awesome plan rates.

Ok now SP out. Peace forum.

(borrowing TS catch phrase, since we both from NY =))

And we thank you none the less.

hi guys I'm new to the forum, but have been following it since I heard about the evo. ill be switching from tmobile when this phone comes out. I'm mainly switching because of the screen size and processor, everything else is a bonus for me.

since I'm a new customer, will I be allowed to buy the phone from bestbuy? or is best buy for current customers only? also, do you guys think that 4g will be ready in NY by the time the phone is released? I'm really exited and really want it in my hands.

thanks.

I believe 4G will NOT be in NYC by the time the Evo is out. That said, NYC should have 4G service before the year is out.

As for buying the phone as a new customer in Best Buy, that shouldn't be a problem.
