car charger

Any micro USB car charger will work but if it is less than 2A, it may not charge the N7 fast enough if you are running a navigation program like Co-Pilot and have your screen's brightness turned up.

I bought a 1A car charger, the N7 actually charges with this charger but it takes very long to be practical.

Anyway you should have a car charger for your N7 in your car, maybe it would serve you one day.

If I had to buy a car charger for the N7 I would choose the HTC C300.
The charger supplies 2A amperage shared to two USB outputs, so if using only one of the outputs it can supply 2A amperage.

But the most important feature is the charger's ability to charge Android phones and tablets in 'Charging AC' mode, means the N7 would be charged rapidly with its highest possible amperage.

This feature is a rare find in generic 2A car charger. You'd find out about only if you have the chance to try it ... after you've bought it.

Is the HTC CC C300 Micro USB Car Charger the same ?

Also, can I interchange the stock usb cable & the HTC cable or must I mark them

It is the same charger, just with an added microUSB cable.

For charging only you can interchange the stock USB and the HTC cable.
Because this HTC coiled cable seems to be a charge-only-cable, means you can use it with every USB charger but not for data transfer with a PC.
I think it is the same charge-only-cable that came with my HTC C200 car charger.

Do you know how that is identified ... shorted or open pins or something? I've seen it on my N7, I think, but cannot find it documented.

I saw this about the HTC cable on Amazom...

The only issue I found with this product is the curly cable that comes with it does not pass the data lines through. So, despite the charger having the data lines shorted internally, the phone doesn't see the short since the wires aren't passed through the cable. If you buy this charger, trash the cable and get a real USB data cable that has the data lines connected. Any cable that connects the phone to a computer has the data wires, and will let this charger perform at its max charge rate.

Does that mean I should use the usb cable that came with the tablet ?

Also, is there an app that will tell me the amps being provided while the batter is charging ?

This coiled HTC cable has in its microUSB connector jumped data pins too. So it must not have data wires.
This cable that came with my HTC C200 car charger I've given to my daughter. She is using it with a generic charger to charge her Galaxy 2 in 'AC charged' mode.

I'm using the HTC C200 car with a standard USB (data) cable.
This ensemble charge my HTC One X in 'AC charged' mode too.

So, you'd use both cables, the HTC and the cable that came with the tablet :)

For a battery app I recommended 'Battery Monitor Widget'.
The app shows my the charging and discharging amperage by time in a nice graph.
And if I'd want it, even the currently amperage on the notification bar.

there are 2 battery monitor widgets list on Google play

One by 3c & the other fsinib.

Did not see a 'charging' amperage in either ?

It's 3C :)

Red numbers with "mA" and with a "-" in front of means discharging amperage.
Green numbers with "mA" and without a "-" in front of means charging amperage.

Note, voltage, percentage of capacity, wattage and temperature of the battery are also shown.

When you connect a charger you have wait a few minutes for to see the figures of the charging amperage because of the measure cycle of the OS. Same with disconnecting.
