Root [ROM] Quattrimus JB (CM10.1, AOKP42)

You mean I dont need to do OTA block on this ROM as dev has already built it in - so verizon's OTA would be blocked by ROM itself ?

I had made a thread about the v8 ota just for questions like this :p

If you have CWM installed, it almost always makes an OTA installation fail. I checked on v7 to v8 just to be sure for this phone... it failed.

Since this rom isn't based on stock you would have no need for the OTA block. In fact, the file that the OTA blocker removes doesn't exist on non-stock roms (CM and AOKP, AOSP if it ever gets going on here). So all the OTA block zip would actually do is clear your caches for you, and probably spit out an error about the file missing.

Hopefully that clears it up for you a bit.

Several people on icy fusion got the update, and I assume they all had CWM. I also remember it being an issue when the ICS update first came out for people on Broken Out and Eclipse (Hence the need for the zip in the first place) so I would have to disagree that just having CWM blocks an OTA.

the only thing I feel sorry is probably I'll have to install all my contacts as they'll get wiped out.

Does anyone have recommendation for the best calendar-contact solution that can work wirelessly- and if free would be better :) . I currently use Phone explorer but its iffy!!

Sync them to your Google account, most reliable way I've found. Or you can save them to your SD card, and then import them to the new ROM.

well since you have an android you must have a gmail account. Go to setting and select accounts and then click on your gmail account and make sure contacts are being synced. If they are then they will automatically be backed up with your google account and you'll never have to save contacts again because when you add them they are backed up at that moment and whenever you load your gmail account on a phone it will download all your contacts automatically.

my experience with google contacts (tired last in feb 2012) was pretty bad- it would mess up all my notes and then on back sync to outlook, would destroy my original records in outlook. So cant risk that unless one of you vouches that you have tested that functionality - specifically notes, details like anniv, bithdays, spouses etc. :)

I don't use the calender because my life just isn't busy enough for me to need a calender for anything and I don't keep up with holidays and birthdays and such so calendars don't serve much purpose for me. But the contacts backup works perfect for me. I don't have any issues with it

I would work on transferring it all to Google. Sync them now, then before you wipe data log on to your Google account on a PC (or web browser) and make sure all the info is there, and if not you can add it that way. I don't use outlook so can't say about the back sync... But have never had an issue with Google Contacts.

Maybe V6 to V7 got treated differently, as V7 actually changed quite a bit. V8 just kinda removes some software.

I couldn't get ICY fusion to boot, or I would have tried taking the OTA on that to check.

I know on rooted stock, the OTA installation fails. I wouldn't think that it would succeed then on anything stock based.

guys- could you pls. give me quick vote on either CM10.1 or AOKP 42 for LG Spectrum - specifically for speed- battery- stability (in that order pls.). Rather than me figuring it out over next 3-4 days on each, I'd rather trust the mortals trudging before me :) and save some patience and time! thanks again

I haven't run the nightly of cm10.1 yet. But I'll give you my 2 cents

CM10 and CM10.1 has consistantly been smoother than AOKP41 and AOKP42.... CM10 was a lot smoother than AOKP41 but the gap was closed some between CM10.1 and AOKP42.... I still have to give the overall edge to CM10.1

Battery I can't speak on really. I work at home and I'm most always plugged into a charger and my battery hardly ever gets low. I don't think there is much of a difference between the two as far as battery life

I think stability is about the same as well...which means, both are pretty stable

One thing you may want ot consider is that if you like features and customisation options then AOKP wins. AOKP is loaded with features and extras that are not in CM10.1 Both have more features than regular AOSP Android does but AOKP specialises in this category.

I personally like CM10.1 more for the simple fact that it's smoother and feels better than AOKP42. But AOKP42 is a very good rom as well and I'm sure it runs awesome on phones with better hardware.

I'd go with CM10.1 for speed, battery and stability are about the same for both. The CM10.1 beta 4 has the best battery, for your situation I think you'd be better off with that and not having to worry about daily updates anyway.

CM10.1... It's official (thanks to TDM) and gets automatic nightly builds :) crack flasher's dream
 
thanks guys..Cm10.1 it is!

If I have to boot into CWM - from hardware (without using the CM10- reboot into recovery screen) - how do I do that for LG spec ?

hold power + volume down until you see a screen with white text asking if you want to factory reset then hit the power button twice
 
tdm, I was looking for an update option within AOKP42 today and I couldn't find one. Does this option exist or do you have to manually download the latest builds from the website?
