Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Hey guys just want to say thanks to everyone contributing information and offering great links about the EVO. I was following the SS and EVO threads on Sprint Community before they got shut down. I got to say for the last few months jackson has been spot on with the SS and Evo specs and info. Hope to hear more.

I'm kinda jazzed about the weather widget with falling rain drops and a windshield wiper. Isn't that part of the Sense UI???

Oh sweet!

jackson,

i think i read that the switch to the "most responsive touch screen" company was pretty recent. do you think these screens will be used immediately for the EVO, or starting with future phones in the works by HTC? obviously i'm hoping for the former.

also (if i missed it i'm sorry), what is your opinion of that screenshot that shows all those EVO's in stock? possibly the real deal or more than likely fake??

I was sure I read somewhere that the new Atmel chips were going to be used in the Evo. Smaller, faster, better tracking and less power. Pretty much par for the course in chip making.

It's not as good as the WM6.5 version of Sense UI as seen on the HD2, but it still does it on Android.

yes, it is believed to be used on it for its first device, at least that is what we acquired from the source that referred to the switch to atmel in the first place

question about the flash on the browser

i read on boygeniusreport that the incredible will be shipping with flash lite 4.0 on board

will the evo ship with flash lite aswell?

or will it be shipping with the flash 10.1 update?

Umm, you don't think a mod or two reads this thread?
yes, and I've been busy but I managed to go through the thread.

Okay for those that hate long posts in threads, sorry, this one may tune you out, but hopefully you will stay for the ride since I think its important to say.

I won't quote what each person said (unless its really necessary, just provide the post link instead)
Post # 2857 by Self Praise
After reading a few articles on the subject, I tend to agree what was written in the PDF/Google Doc Document posted earlier that WiMAX share a common ancestry in that both are products of the IEEE 802 committees, (this makes them similar) but WiMax and WiFi are two separate technologies for two separate purposes which others have been saying. So it all depends on what view one takes the documents.

But with that being said, I agree with Post # 2874 by nx25 that the majority of the public who are buying phones can't tell the difference. Its up to the carriers to get this across but knowing them they will capitalize on marketing it like its the same or worse tell half lies to make their product seem better.

As for post # 2878 by LatinP, I already said previously that I am still debating wether to split this thread and have the really technical stuff in its own thread. i personally like reading them myself, so I will be extracting all Wimax info in this thread over to the Wimax thread.

As for post # 2880 by MyNameIsNotImportant, I personally object to the second part of your post. Whether its a friendly comment as you say, it comes across as condescending, rude and uncalled for. I think all the members here including bill have done an outstanding job of keeping this thread as civil as possible. But by telling anyone to keep your comments to such topics as your favorite color and what games they plan on using is stepping over the line. If he chooses to be as cordial as possible with everyone, (which in itself is hard to do with so many personalities and temperaments on a discussion board), then what harm is that. And I'll be honest with you, as much as I love reading about technical stuff to improve my knowledge of things, if it means choosing between a forum that is full of arguments and flaming but with great technical topics over one that is more down to earth but friendly and respectful of one another's post, trust me I will choose the respectful one. Like I said in the past, I will not let this forum become a hotbed of fights and disrespectful people. Regardless who it is or how much knowledge the person may have. If that means restricting some members from participating, so be it.

I will now go back through the thread and extract any WiMax info to the other WiMax thread. I will also be removing any flames, attacks, really off-topic posts.

edit: yikes just realize it 60 pages, so it may take a while. Oh well, so it is written, so it will be done.

I don't know where I read it (somewhere online), but I remember seeing it discussed that Sense UI is basically like a new, more responsive version of TouchFlo 3D.

Is this accurate? I know for a fact that I personally hate Touch Flo 3D, but just put up with it.

it will more than likely ship with the 10/1 update although that is not confirmed.

and from what ive heard HTC is using those screens on the Evo. they are awesome

good to hear about the new screens hopefully being on the evo!

at the evo presentation it was stated the evo will sport full flash, so i'm assuming that would be flash 10.1, right?

Sense UI evolved from TF3D. The HD2's Sense UI is much better than the Android version though. Watch a HD2 Sense UI video on youtube and you will understand :D.

Sense is the best UI skin ever. It totally adds on stock Android only enhancing every feature, not taking anything away. That is the reason i will only own an HTC Adnroid device. No sense=no phone.

GO EVOOOOO

Jackson
No sense makes no sense? Or maybe No sense=nonsense?:p

Okay, I just watched one of the videos of Sense UI on the HD2. I see what you mean about Sense UI evolving from TF3D.

Personally, I really hate the bottom tab format on TF3D, which I see is still there on the HD2. I can see that Sense UI seems to be much more responsive than TF3D is.

What portions of Sense UI do you feel are better on WinMo (HD2) vs. Android (EVO)?

that self praise guy confused me a little bit. Sprint was supposedly full bore on advertising for April 16th a few weeks ago. I sent an email over to Dan to try and confirm again. I will die if they change this, they NEED to keep the schedule they have!
