It must be genetic. My son to this day dislikes cake and would much rather have a baguette with candles on his birthday.

Yeah, my wife is still confused that I'm not a sweets person despite going to culinary school for Pastry and Baking. :p
Give me a good croissant any day and I'll be in heaven though.

We had marvelous croissants at this small hotel we stayed at when we were in Japan. Their breakfasts were simple but very good.

That's good. Less risk of getting diabetes

We were in an Iberostar resort in Mexico in January and had absolutely horrendous croissants. I think they just shipped them in frozen from New Jersey and defrosted them by letting them sit out on the beach.

The first thing I did when we got back was go to our local bakery and get a decent croissant.

Sadly, that's genetic, too. My mother was never one for sweets and wasn't heavy but in her later years she was diagnosed with Diabetes. My grandmother, I recall always had blood sugar issues as well.

My problem is that if I have processed sugar (natural sugar isn't so bad) my blood sugar spikes but then drops significantly to the point where I have almost passed out. Twice it happened while driving, which is very scary!

Carbs are carbs. :)

Hmmm, they don't look the same to me ...

Yeah Dread, took me a minute to recognize you! LOL

I'm not one for sweets, either. At least that's what I tell myself because my reaction is similar to Luna's, except I actually did pass out once. 0_o

Crescents? LOL That's what they call them here, and they are AWFUL! Last time I had a decent one was when i was living in Jersey.

Luna- that is scary! Isn't there anything you can do about it?

Yup .... stop eating processed sugar. ;)

I stopped pretty much all sugar a few years ago and test my glucose regularly. At first it looked like the friggin' stock market ... up then down, then spiking and plummeting. After a year or so it leveled out and now rarely goes below 80 or above 150, so my doctor thinks it might have actually reversed itself (which does happen occasionally.) The thing is, if I eat a cookie, about 45 minutes later I feel light-headed, so I just avoid it all.

I like to think that I'm reserving my sweets intake for the more expensive ones, thus making it "worth it":p

Luna- two people I know who had diabetes in their genes have strictly controlled diets and they are now well into their senior years, happy and healthy!

Gah, wife disassembled the old couch and put it in the kitchen yesterday since we got the new one. Need to take the pieces out to the trash area. Sure the neighbors won't be happy, but not the first time I've taken out some furniture there. :)

Now I'm hungry, and on my first day of dieting too:rolleyes:

Starting is the hardest part, because you are breaking habits. Just don't substitute other bad habits, because that never works. Ironically, exercise suppresses your appetite. Take a walk or go for a swim or sumpthin'
