Annoying Download Behavior

My new N7 has a rather annoying habit. If, for example, I download 'Angry Birds', the download progress icon and bar continuously act as if they are downloading the app but never do (the icon flashes etc). I have to reboot the N7 and then the downlaod starts. However a second 'download' of Angry Birds starts and finishes successfully (not the original). The first just keeps acting as if its still downloading until I reboot again.

I use Angry Birds as as example, the N7 does this process for all downloads. Its frustrating to have to perform numerous reboots just to download an app.

Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Have you tried clearing the data and cache of the Play app?

I have tried that. Thanks for the suggestion. I can even go into 'Airplane' mode and it will still try and try to download an app. If Itry to go to the Play page from the downlaod icon - nothing happens. Its as if its a dummy download.

I'm sure I've seen this problem reported here before, but after a quick search I can't find it. I think the solution was to remove the Google Play account then go into Play and re-enter it, though my memory of it is hazy so I could be wrong. As a last resort try a factory reset.

Well I tried an install from the web-based Play store and after clicking install, nothing happens. I have also tried deleting/adding my account - no luck.

Wont a factory reset delete all my apps and progress in games etc?

Thanks all.

I frequently have this issue on my 4.0.4 Kyocera Rise, so I don't know if its related- on the Rise, cancelling and restarting USUALLY makes it perk up

I had done that in the past, however, a download is now un-cancelable. If I click on the download progress bar, Im not taken to Play. If I manually go the download in Play, and cancel it, the download progress bar remains on the home screen. I have to reboot to get rid of it.

Very frustrating as its stopping me from downloading apps unless I REALLY need them. :)

A factory reset will do wipe the data, yes. However, there's an app called Carbon Backup which allows you to backup and restore data without root though.

On previous handsets/devices, I resolved similar issues by connecting my phone to the computer and copying over the android_secure and LOST.DIR folders, deleting them from the phone's SD Card, then rebooting the device. I can't see them on the N7's virtualy SD Card though, so I'm sort of stumped with this one :(

Thanks Presidente.

I just tried to wipe cache/data for the Play store again. No joy.

I constantly get the 'Updates Available' icon on the homescreen, clicking the icon and Im taken to the Play store, I click update for any app and the progress bar appears in the play store but not on the homescreen, the progress bar (in the Play store) just sits 'thinking' but never begins a download UNTIL I reboot the N7 and then the progress bar begins to move AND a progress bar appears on the homescreen (duplicate). One progress bar goes away after the download is complete but the second just sits there (on the homescreen) 'thinking'. I then reboot (again) to clear the dummy homescreen.

What a pain :)

UPDATE: I did a factory reset and now all's working well again. I figured I had wasted enough time on the issue and its just faster to reinstall items.

Thanks all.

It does, it's got pretty high ratings on Play, but I've never heard any direct user feedback so if you give it a go, let us know how you get on. :)

Once I get everything set on my N7, I will do a full Carbon backup (N7 is not rooted) and report back. I did do a partial backup from my EVO (rooted phone) and then restored some the EVO's apps to the N7. I was surprised to see that all the game saves and app settings from the EVO seamlessly transferred to the N7 - so far Im impressed :)
