Bioshock: Infinite

I picked up my Premium copy two days ago, got to play the first few hours w/ my fiance last night. Loving that my GT560 OC'd can all but max it out on my HD TV. Plays and looks great. I just got to Monument Island. What about you guys?
 
I saw a Let's Play of the first 30 or so minutes into the game. The graphics looked stunning and the gameplay seemed pretty fluid. I might get back into the Bioshock series again
 
So far so good. Crazy/funny story, good acting, fun gameplay.





(possible minor spoilers)

The only thing I dislike is that Elizabeth looks like a cartoon character. But the grappling sections are kinda awesome. The scientist couple is hilarious too.
 
I'm not sure about BioShock Infinite but most games give you the option to turn gore down.

As far as the game, it is starting a little slower than the previous games but I am liking it. Having a bit of stuttering movement from time to time though, not sure if it is graphics card, RAM related or what. I have a 570 GTX and 8 gigs ram which should be plenty, I7 2700K, SATA III SSD and Raptor for my program drive.
 
Turning Ambient Occlusion down helps. And texture filtering to normal. I had to play with the settings a lot till I found what was just right. I'll post what I set them as and check for gore next time I play.

Played a bit last night and just wanted to follow up.

I would say there is definitely some gore. It's not a zombie filled game, but there is definitely some scenes of "a horrific battle happened before you got here."

That said, the game has more of a focus on "period art" / "being weird" than gore. But the gore is definitely there.
 
I'll pick up a copy pretty soon for the PC. I've played the previous 2 and enjoyed them.

I have another fix, I can get a good deal on a GTX690! Unfortunately that would kill any other buying plans I have...:D

Liking it, not as much as the others but I am only at the Gunsmith, if it is like the others there is a whole lot left.
 
I got bored silly of the two previous Bioshock games so haven't bought this one. I know everyone is different but i'd value the opinions of people on here; is this game broadly similar to previous incarnations please?

I'd say that there is much less repetitive gameplay, for sure. Much better than the previous in that regard. You are introduced to new enemies along the way and new gameplay elements. There isn't a boss battle with a Big Daddy every 20 mins or anything like that. The gameplay is generally quite fun.

The story-telling and "weirdness" factor are similar, though. But the dialogue, acting, etc are very good and move it along well.



To sum up:

This is definitely a BioShock game, but it excels in quite a few of the areas the other two fell flat.

If the trailer looks like your kind of game, you probably will enjoy it.
 
I had to exhibit self control at Target yesterday. I had the game in my hand whilst walking around the store. Once we were ready to check out, I put it back because it would have doubled my bill. :(

I'll probably wait until I can get it a little cheaper.

Also the BigE puts up a very good arguement. My current video card is only a GTS250, I'll probably need to upgrade my rig soon.
 
I rarely buy games before the price drops, but this and the new Tomb Raider are tempting me. The Last Of Us might break me lol. I'm really trying to stop buying games faster than I can play them, but they still keep piling up lol.

I do that too; I have loads of unfinished games to play. I'm such a sucker for the latest shiny.

I've seen the trailers for Bioshock Infinite now and it's still not grabbing me. I do love First Person Shooters as a rule though so I will not discount the game in its entirety. I think i'll wait for Steam to have a sale and buy it then. Bioshock Infinite seems to be setting the gaming world alight so i'll keep an eye on it.

O_o !! If I were going to be playing BioShock or any of the newer games coming out, I think I would want at least a high end GTX 5-series or mid-tier GTX 6-series. I'm probably not telling you anything that you didn't already know though.

Yeah, I know it's time. My whole rig is about 5 years old now. I OC'd the crap outta the 250 and it'll run Crysis 2 no problem. Not on ultra no way, but it's still playable. :p

My laptop has a GT 650M in it and this thing is nice. Destroys the 250 easily, only problem is it gets the laptop really hot. I had to make a cooling stand for it. :)
 
Crysis 2 was... the not-demanding one IIRC

I should send you my GTX480. It's collecting dust and needs a home. I just cant be bothered to sell it, heh.

Apples and oranges (IMHO). Bioshock is stylistic vs Crysis which aims for realistic/technical. So I think you're both right, just looking at it from different perspectives.

You wont find anything like this in Crysis:

This is the way I see it:

Crysis 3: some of the best, most-realistic graphics in any game ever.

Bioshock Infinite: some of the most artistic and beautifully stylistic graphics in any game ever.

I usually don't either, but BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider were free from AMD after buying a HD78XX series gpu. Gave Tomb Raider to my son since he has most of the other one's and kept Bioshock Infinite for myself.
