Did you do what it said in the beginning?

Windows ICS Root Batch prompt said:
[*] Before continuing, ensure USB debugging is enabled, that you
[*] have the latest LG drivers installed, and that your phone is
[*] connected via USB.

It sounds like you may not have adb working correctly.

Try changing your USB mode to Modem > Ethernet or Internet > Ethernet. I can't recall which choice is in the stock rom.

Also, make sure you run the batch file as administrator. That might be why you're getting the permissions errors.

Yup, all these things have been done. Its on ethernet as well. I'm not sure why im getting errors.

Thanks PG and Jcase, your root exploit is quick and slick, reminds me of 1kds's iso's for the Droid X and X2, smooth and works every time. Thanks.

I just purchased the LG Spectrum 2 and I am loving the phone thu sfar.

I performed the rooting process as described and was able to gain root access to my phone. I then turned the phone on and downloaded clockwork mod from the market and installed it. Once i set up (it didn't have the Lg Spectrum 2 as a supported device, so I use the Spectrum instead) I selected "reboot into recovery". Well, the phone rebooted like it was going to go into recovery, but instead the phone booted into ICS, where I had to setup up the phone again. Apparently, when I selected "reboot into recovery" from the clockwork mod app, it performed a factory reset on the phone.

I then turned the phone off, and tried to get into recovery by holding down the power button and the vol. down button. Doing that bought up a screen that asked of I wanted to perform a factor reset of the phone.

Apparently there is no "bootloader" on the phone? Nor if there a recovery option on the phone either??

Has anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? How did you successfully get clockwork recovery touch to install/flash on the phone?

Remember, I am using the LG Spectrum 2 NOT the original Spectrum (Spectrum 1).

Thanks

Try asking in the Spectrum 2 community. They would know a lot more than we do.

Use a tool made for your phone. If there isn't one... Well there isn't one. Just because these phones share a name doesn't mean the ROMs and recoveries are cross compatible or even that they have the same partition tables. Hopefully you can figure out what was on the partition that the recovery got written to and recover it from someone else with your model of phone. I'd recommend posting in the spectrum2 forum for help.

I'm impressed that you didn't brick your phone. The bootloader on the Spec 2 is locked. If you flashed CWM to the correct recovery partition, you would security error your phone. If you remove or freeze the wrong software on your phone, you will security error it. If you security error your phone, you will need to .cab flash back to stock. You have been advised.

Wonder if playful could add something like this to the op for the folks who only read the first post and dive in. This is the second or third posting about this not working on the spec 2 in this thread now... Funniest party is, since nobody reads the while thread for issues before diving in...more people keep posting. Wonder how many bricked the phone and just took it back without posting.

I only used this method because every forum I searched Spectrum 2 root linked me to THIS page, wit a few saying that it did indeed work on their Spectrum 2 phone. I'm not an idiot, this is my third android phone, with successful rooting of the previous 2.

This root method does seem to work for the spectrum 2, however none of the roms or other boot images would be compatible as they are designed for the spectrum... which is completely different from the spectrum 2.

Nobody called you an idiot. A lot of the root methods for android are somewhat universal. So when you searched root and landed here, that makes sense.

However, you should NEVER EVER *flash* anything (ie. Roms, recoveries, boot loaders) that are not made for your specific device. By doing do you're just asking for a brick. If you get anything else... You lucked out.

Flashing simply executes a dd command to overwrite the specified partition within the script. It doesn't check that your on the right device, that the partition contains what you're trying to flash or anything else.

First off, let me briefly introduce myself. I'm Ben, have been using android since 2010 now and am a bit of a techie. If any of you remember the old Motorola RAZRs (the original flip phone, not the RAZR nowadays) I was big into hacking that thing and flashing new roms and bootloaders and even bricked it a time or two so I've got somewhat of an inspiration to root my Spectrum.

Now for the nitty gritty stuff... I've been trying to root this thing for going on 2 hours now and i can NOT get past "daemon has started successfully." I've installed the newest LG USB drivers directly from their site...TWICE. I'm running v3.8.1 so I've got the newest drivers. My phone has USB debugging enabled and the notification bar is reporting it has started. My USB connection type is set to Internet > ETHERNET (I've tried both Modem and Ethernet.... no luck either way). I double-checked my drivers thinking maybe they were corrupt, but when i switch to mass storage mode or media sync, it automatically detects my phone so i'm sensing drivers arent the issue here. After reading all 4 pages (unless i missed a post or 2) it seems everyone's first thing to check is the drivers or USB mode...but I've got both those bases covered. what else could be causing this to hang and not finish the rooting process?

You should probably completely remove the drivers for your spectrum (using something like usbdeview , reboot, then connect your phone in usb debugging mode initially and install the drivers like that.

You may also want to use that program, sort by connected, and see if there's any android devices connected. It's possible that the driver still didnt install correctly.

I got that to work, found out it was hanging on Windows Update and wouldn't let the install succeed. Plugged it in (used Modem instead of Ethernet) and it installed everything to include the ADB interface when it hadn't before. Started the root batch file, immediately ran its course and i'm now rooted! thanks!

Hi, need help rooting.
Lp68hQc
Im getting this when trying to root but im not sure what the problem is because i think i have drivers installed. Where do i get the drivers for my computer? Also, it says root complete at the bottom but my phone on the ics ota is not rooted. Ive tried modem mode and and all that but no modes work. Please help?

Edit: nevermind after months of trying it finally worked for some reason!

So this ROOTed my phone FLAWLESSLY. Thank you, thank you thank you. But when i try to get into the Recovery boot i think i ran into the Blue Screen equivalent for the LG. I got the "Long time no see" error when trying to get into the recovery. Does that mean there a like Bootlocker on the phone or something?
