Hey guys,

Just wanted to mention a few things if you order online, just in case they weren't mentioned. Verizon ships all their overnighted orders with FedEx Express, and that's where I work. First, if you're not going to be home, be sure to sign a note telling the delivery guy/girl they can leave the package. We are required to receive signatures for all Verizon packages.

Second, and more importantly I think, is you guys can actually go to the FedEx station before the couriers leave the building and get your phone early. What time they leave the building depends on where you live. In my small town, we are usually out of there by 9:30, but the bigger the city, the earlier they leave. You could always call your local station and ask, but I just thought I'd give you a heads up. Fortunately for me, I get mine the second it comes off the truck :)

Thanks everyone in the forum for making this a fun 4 months for me!

Neat, but that doesn't guarantee it'll work on the Inc. You'll also need software support for it. Some devices automatically route sound through the headphone port if it detects something is plugged in there, and they may not offer a way to override that setting.

Besides, you can simply take an old, cheap pair of buds and cut all but about a foot off and use it for the same thing (and already 3.5mm). Assuming there is a speaker function option when plugged in, of course.

Well nobody else said anything so i guess i will.

What exactly do you mean about the Wi-Fi N?

Care to enlighten us?

Let's just say that the internal spec sheet is not the same as the external spec sheet... Not saying it will happen, just that right now, there are two conflicting sheets, so we'll see what happens..

Since insurance seems to be a topic of concern, I though I would mention a few things. My area of expertise is primarily commercial property insurance, but here are a few considerations:

  • Premium: For a 2-year contract you'll be paying $168 ($7/mo. x 24 mos.) in total premium.
  • Deductibles: Seem to be around $50. Add this to the total premium and you get $218 in out-of-pocket costs.
  • Recovery: This is the deal breaker for me. From my research, most of these policies do not provide you with a monetary settlement. They send you a replacement phone in the event of a loss (imagine if your auto policy did this!). This is usually a refurb and does not have to be the exact model unless specified in the policy.
Just my $.02. Personally, I'll be taking the risk prevention route and buying a case, etc. $25 seems like a pretty good deal to me. :)

RE: Recovery - I lost my phone in 2008, I had to pay the $50 deductible, they sent me some knockoff Pearl back that didn't even have the Blackberry logo on it and the Trackball was a mess. I notified Verizon that this was not an acceptable replacement. They ended up sending me the full retail package after that, both overnight shipments. So you have the option to get an additional phone if the first replacement is not suitable. Just an FYI.

3. Enter the number of the line that you took the upgrade from
4. That will take you through the contract acceptance and then you can activate the phone by calling *228, option 1

If I'm entering the number of the line that I took the upgrade from, how does the Incredible get assigned the number that I want? (the one w/o NE2?)

Now that we know the phone is coming, people should start asking their piddly questions like "does this phone do this because i had a dream where Montana Man came riding a horse and whispered in my ear?" or "zomg can I get my NE2 with Best Buy even though it's a full moon and I'm on Sprint?" or "WTH PEEPLE ANSZER MY QUESTION!!!" all through this pseduo chat room.

Seriously. The forum can function better when people ask relevant questions as a new topic and get relevant answers in reply to them. Then that way, we don't have to tell someone "oh yeah we discussed this 23 pages ago" and people can easily search what questions have already been resolved.

Who's with me?

I buy a few things online every month and FedEx has left the packages with the front office when I'm not home. I would assume it would be no different in this case.

When I lived in an apartment yes UPS/FEDEX any kind of delivery would leave me a note on th door to let me know they dropped it off at the office. The office had a locked room and log book for all deliveries.

Yes but it was my understanding that in the first 30 days you HAVE to contact the online support. Thats what I care about with being an early adopter. If I have to go to the web site, and they are sold out, it could be quite some time before I see a replacement

I've taken phones back the first WEEK of having them, after purchasing online, to the local store without a problem.

VZW is fine! Buy it online, buy it in store, buy it on eBay (like I did my Storm) and if the local shop has it in stock they'll replace it. Period. End of Story.

They even replaced my storm for free, and I bought it on Ebay! (granted it was within the warranty and since the original owner had bought it from VZW directly, the warranty was in place, but still, that's pretty great!)

Yeah, me. I've been trying out Sprint's test-drive offer for a week and a half w/ the Hero and it's been great everywhere I've gone. Couple that w/ a much better plan price and EVO's release, and I'm leaning toward Sprint. Of course, I'm prudent, so I want to see what the EVO will cost and if the plan will be higher.

Plus, it's worth waiting on reviews from Engadget and such for each handset. I've waited for well over a year... I can wait another couple weeks to get exactly what I want.

I've been thinking about doing this but how did you get the Hero? Did you just buy it and sign up for service? If yes, won't you then have to pay full price when the Evo comes out if you go with Sprint since you are already under contract or is your plan to cancel Sprint w/i 30 days no matter what and thus get the discounted price w/ the Evo?

No. Have fun with the crowds.
Depending where you live, I doubt you'll be seeing as big of a showing as there was with the Droid...Lots of ppl used the NE2 for the Moto Droid then and since then. I'm confident that I could get to Verizon at 10am and walk out in 15-20 minutes. The only reason it takes that long is because you have to listen to the *explicit description of a VZ rep. censored for all the e-tears folks here* try selling you accessories you don't want/need

When people are saying go to a Verizon store at opening time on the 29th, are we referring to the Verizon corporate stores or will we also be able to go to a VZW authorized cell phone dealer?

Based on the allocation of the storage, it appears the built-in memory is being used for apps and the 512mb rom is not used for apps (accept for the OS). If not, we should see a couple hundred more free megs, since the 512mb rom would be half OS and then free storage (like Droid and Eris).

And this is what makes this phone a champ! The ability to store a shit ton more apps and have 512 ROM just for OS

When HTC announced the Desire...has sense 2.1 and a 5 mp camera...they said 720p video will be enabled by a future update...the EVO was announced as having 720p video, BUT it was running a work in progress ROM...The Incredible has a consumer ready ROM and from what we know, probably the same 8mp camera...so theres a great chance it WILL support 720p, but not until a future update enables it
BUT... NONE of the sources have said anything about it for sure. It sounds like SMEs have the phones in their hands and we haven't heard a solid yes or no. What are the odds that Verizon is keeping that information confidential until they feel like releasing it? Something tells me that they're not done surprising us yet. We had NO CLUE about the TV out until we saw the PDF, and then it was confirmed by Anon...

There's a reason strippers start with their clothes ON and then take them off instead of just coming out on stage naked...

I think Verizon knows how to tease... why else wouldn't they have ANYTHING in ANY of the documentation that we've seen that has given us video resolutions? We've seen camera resolutions but NOTHING on video apart from "8MP camera with autofocus and dual LED flash with video capture"... WHY NOT? Why would they withhold those resolutions? Hmm?

I am going back and forth on this. I am hung up on the screen types (amoled or lcd), the network provider (verizon or sprint), price of plans! Just to name a few.

Well for me the screen in every way wins on the Evo. First just because technology says something is better it doesn't mean it is so. I have held both a HD2 and a Nexus One and I would take the HD2 screen over the Nexus one any time. Its much better overal viewing plus the screen size is just amazing. I have no problems with sprint as a network provider so everything is saying Evo I just don't know that I want to wait another 2 months.

While that may be true for basic Amazon and eBay stuff, VZW WILL NOT ALLOW their phones to be left at the door without a physical signature from someone. No Sig = no Phone...PERIOD. I'm sure you can figure out why;)

I know someone just posted a second ago that they were also on the phone with someone about this (and probably by the time I'm done typing there'll be another 100 posts anyway :o), but since I spent 25 minutes on the phone between 2 different people, here goes:
I stopped into one of the best buy mobile stores last night and they said on the 18th you can pay the $50 to reserve the phone and on the 29th there will be one waiting at the store for you. They specifically said you cannot take one home on the 18th.
ok guys/girls these two statements directly contradict each other...

SOMEONE TELL ME THE TRUTH DARN IT!@@

So between someone at BB Mobile (who double checked with 2 other people), and someone at a physical BB-Mobile store:
The wording on their Pre-sale site page is not only mis-leading, it's also inaccurate, apparently.
She was able to find out that the pre-order, yes pre-order, starts not on the 18th, but the 19th. By the way, this is only for the stand-alone official BB Mobile stores (that there are only a couple dozen in the US), and you will go in there, put down your $50, and then on release day 4-29 by 10am there will be a reserved phone with your name on the call tag, waiting for your hot little hands.

The BBM stores will NOT have a physical phone to hand you before general release day. I had mentioned to her how legally problematic the language on their site is, and they they would have a serious issue on their hands if someone (or many someones) drove an hour or hour and a half based on that site info, only to find out they weren't going to be leaving with a phone that day.
When I emphasized legally problematic is when she put me on hold to double check, and came back to say it's pre-order not pre-sale & 19th, not 18th.

I figure I'd take the extra time to reiterate this info, because I'd hate to see my fellow forumites here make a long drive only to end up totally pissed off. 'Cuz I know I sure as hell would be.
Again, apologies if there have been 5 more posts on this while I have been typing (which isn't fast, even on a good day), but I luvz y'all :p so better safe than sorry.

First go troll somewhere else. Second who is technology I would like to speak with him.Third your argument is junk because an oled screen IS better than the old led. To use your logic you would say that the 4G connection you will get on the evo is not better than 3G because technology says so.....your a joke

No need for name calling, just because he thinks the EVO is better doesn't mean it is or isn't. I personally think the EVO is an awesome phone, I know Sprint is reliable where I am, and I know the pricing is better as well.

But I personally have had a wonderful experience with Verizon's customer care and wouldn't leave unless somehow it all went down hill. Now I think the Incredible is just that, Incredible. I am sure I will be completely satisfied with it, and don't want anything else for at least the next six months, lol.

CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? Everyone has different taste, and I don't think he was trying to start anything, just giving his opinion.
