Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

Google now works as good as my high end tablet :) I just checked back after running stock for 6 months, amazing work, it is like a new phone.

This rom is pretty awesome. Great job BSydz! As for the people wanting to change font size, go to System settings < System < Font Size. It has the options of small, normal, large and huge.

hmm.. for some reason I can't see a "my apps" option in the google play store. any ideas?

Might depend on your selected UI... for tablet UI, I think it appears at the top, whereas phone UI it'll pop up when you hit the menu button.

If it still isn't showing then...

My play store "installed Apps" - shows at the top. It's an inverted "T" Icon. Works like a charm. I'm using "Old Folks" Settings. LOL

This ROM rocks. great work. I usually just lurk, but I went ahead and made an account to comment on this. It's that awesome. Runs really smooth (using smartassV2 governor and top clock speed at ~1500MHz) and a lot of the random bugs I ran into on the CM9 based PA are gone. I have yet to test the tethering (both wireless and wired). Camera is kicking all sorts of ass except video. Panoramic and regular pics both worked perfectly on the rear camera. the front cam is on, but I didn't try snapping anything.

Google Now is also much more responsive than it used to be. I really want to get in on this ROM devving business, but I need a dedicated machine for that first (I've been down to just my laptop for a while). The last time I tried grabbing the source was a nightmare.

Now for some questions:
How is everyone's GPS? I've been using a patch I found on XDA since day 1, it's the only way it ever worked for me. The lock was just too damn slow otherwise.
Next, who's overclocking, what settings do you use, and what's the performance bump?
Thanks for the feedback.

GPS works but I can't really say cause I can't get a gps lock for squat where I live, but I did use navigation yesterday and it worked fine. It took a few blocks but it was the first lock since install.

As far as overclocking, I usually just OC to 1200 if I even overclock, I have ran my phone at 2000 but it just drains the battery like crazy. Sometimes it will help to OC to smooth out some game stutter or something like that, but even at 1024 I don't ever really see much stutter. Even in games like Real Racing 3. it runs fine at 1024 but will just barely stutter a lil bit.

So far I'm liking this ROM! Coming from the old Sharp ROM.

Couple of things. Not to be picky, but can we have something between the stock size and the Old Folks Mode? Really like the original look, but it was a tad small, OFM is way too big -- how do I revert?

Second, went to install Google Now, but system size shows only 10.4MB free, I see I need 60MB or at least 30MB for live install. Internal shows 961MB free plus lots of room on the SD.

Got to say using this is like having a new phone ---- Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks, you're just gonna have to spend some time in Paranoid settings, and get your system setup just like you want it. Some good middle of the road custom dpi settings are 160 and 192, the smaller the number the smaller the font.

It sounds like you installed your regular ICS Gapps, To get Now to install, you have to :
Boot to recovery
Wipe Cache
Flash the ROM. This formats /system then installs the ROM which should have 60 MB free. This is why I created the symlinked Gapps (check the OP).
Install Google now offline
Install Symlinked Gapps
Reboot

Sometimes Google Now won't work unless you fresh install and choose one of the options at the end of the setup wizard to allow location.
hmm.. for some reason I can't see a "my apps" option in the google play store. any ideas?
In tablet ui the my apps is an arrow up at the top next to the magnifying glass.

loaded the apr17-2 rom last night and everything looked good. Played golf today and couldn't get my golf app to lock on to gps. Ran GPStest app and it didn't show any satellites. Reverted back to cm7 (hey... I had to play golf).

I see other folks saying that the gps is working so I will re-download and try again.

Also thanks for the old folks font zip, I'll give that a try on my next install.

This is mainly for people still messing around with the settings. Here are mine to give them ideas.

Paranoid Settings
Statusbar style: Phone UI
User default UI: Phone UI
System default DPI: 200
User default DPI: 200
System UI DPI: 200

System
Navigation bar: Softkeys checked

I'm also using Nova Launcher and set the icon size to 125%.

This rom freaking rocks, It honestly feels like a new phone.

Here is a screenshot.

Yeah, I'm getting that occasionally too.

BSyds, yeah I ended up doing that except I used online version-- should I use the off line version? I am getting a message to update but Play says it's not compatible with my phone. Anything worthwhile in the update? Anyway to install it?

Yeah, I've seen the garbled text once, it disappeared a few seconds later though. It's definitely not an app-specific thing.

I had the mangled text problem after installing the 'old folks' font so I changed font size to small, rebooted, changed size back to normal and havent seen the problem again

EDIT: spoke too soon. Problem reappeared after working fine for a day

Not sure if I'm the only one, I'm still noticing an issue with Google Maps/Navigation. They work fine, really good actually. But every time I restart my phone they no longer work at all. I get stuck on the loading screen until the phone eventually gives up, asking to close the unresponsive app.

I'm not sure if it's related, but I also tried to reconnect to wifi afterwards and my phone got stuck on stupid and froze up. Tried switching profiles or in/out of airplane mode, but only way to fix it was a reboot.

Right now my workaround is to just remember to delete/reinstall Maps after a reboot; it seems to work fine again.

This new version with front camera working, if I take a photo with the rear camera with the standard camera app, it's a normal photo (not panoramic) right?

The first camera fix only did panoramic.

Auto focus works too correct?

Trying to edit the icons in the Dock and I removed the default messaging app but I cannot place a new (Go SMS Pro) app in there. Am I missing something? Using the stock launcher that came with the ROM.
