Root [Verizon] Rooting the SGS3 LTE.

Wildarc

Newbie
Can you do all the same things when it comes to rooting and putting roms on the LTE version as on the regular S3?

Well there is the SGS3 original and then there is the LTE version which Samsung has locked up like Fort Knox I was wondering if you can root and unlock the LTE version just like the regular S3

And yes Verison

There are many variants of the S3. The only ones not lock to a carrier are the International versions. I know all the US versions are lock to their providers. I don't use Verizon, and understand the Boot-loader is locked. You need to Read and check the videos and then Read and then Read again. Make sure you understand what you are doing or you could have an expensive paper weight.

Yes i meant the bootloader XD thanks a lot. and i do know what i am doing. I have the CM 10 on my Lucid. can you get that in the S3 as well? also, just to be 100% certain if i root and put a mod on it can i undo everything just like i did on the Lucid?

Yes to both questions :)

See this thread in the sticky that some chucklehead put together:

It will have a link to the rooting procedure and also some, but not all, rom links.:)

Edit: and by, "undoing everything" you mean, unroot and go back to stock? yes.

hmmm...not sure...perhaps restart your computer then try again.
Or, download them direct from Samsung here:

Do you have any other program trying to communicate with the phone such as Kies?
I would suggest now to either disable, or uninstall Kies. It may interfere with Odin later.
But if you have Kies, you should already have the drivers installed.

Edit: I will be logging off now, but others may come around to help out if needed.
Just remember to read thoroughly the guide and be prepared for glitches...they happen sometimes.
Read thru the thread on XDA...I know it's long :(

So the S Beam works on all mods/roms?
Well, I can't speak for other roms (I don't flash many roms...shhhh, don't tell anyone:p ) but I can speak for CleanRom and it works. I can safely assume all other custom roms would have it working.

Now as for mods, I don't see why a mod would break s-beam, but sometimes a mod won't work properly and then something else may not work. But I wouldn't worry about S-beam not working on a certain rom/mod.
Just be sure to read about the rom or mod you will flash and see if others have issues concerning S-beam.

Cool you have Clean Rom. How is the keyboard? The Stock one is slow and clunky as hell. Can you move the APP button in the dock? Are you able to overclock it? and if not do you know of any Kernels that work with it so i can OC it?

The keyboard is nice...I use the Samsung keyboard that came with it. I can also choose Swype if I wanted. Been getting used to the swype type keyboards. Besides, there's a buttload of other keyboards available in the PlayStore if you do not like the default one. Oh, check out A.I. Type Keyboard in the Play Store....it's nice too:)

As far as the app button, I use a different launcher that Nova or whatever came with it. I don't use/like the bottom dock at all.

Yes I can overclock it. I have used the stock kernel that comes with it, but about a week after flashing Cleanrom, I use the LeanKernel. I think you can go just over 1.8 GHz? I run it at about 1.5.

See my sig for a link to LeanKernel.:)

So i have Clean Rom on it with the LeanK installed as well. Works like a dream now. But im running into a problem where no computer is recognizing the phone as a mass storage device. I cant get any files on or off the phone or SD card. I have also tried using the SGS3 Easy UMS 1.2beta2 and the 1.8 but nothing seems to be working. Any thoughts?

Technically, the phone will not be a UMS device.
However, when you plug it into the computer, does the computer recognize it as anything?
On your device when you pull the notification bar down, do you see the option that says mounted as ptp/mtp, and when you click on it, you can change it to mtp or ptp?
If not, try installing the drivers again.
You can get those from here.

Ok. I had uninstalled the drivers and re-installed them and all the sudden the phone is now popping up as a freaking CD drive o_O???????
