id say install cm10.1 or an aokp rom... best customizable features... also you may want to explore different kernels and see what your max OC(over clock) is. have fun flashing.

While some may say that OTA Rootkeeper will allow you to receive OTA updates while rooted, I've never seen a post saying it worked. Basically, in order to get an OTA update, you have to have stock recovery and it will probably break the root. I'd recommend that you don't install a custom ROM just yet, get comfortable with rooted apps first. You might want to read up on all the custom roms that are available before you try. Make sure to do a nanoid backup in your custom recovery (either CWM or TWRP) right away, so that if something goes wrong, you'll have your backup.

As far as apps, there's a lot of useful apps. First on the list is Titanium Backup. There's both a free and a paid version. Personally, I think the paid version is money well spent. As far as other apps, search for the term "root" in the Play Store and see what meets your needs. A few more that I find very useful are Root Explorer and Clock Sync. (It bugs me that the Sprint clock is not accurate to the second)!

Enjoy and welcome to the other side :)

What is the best way or app to back up my roms and to download roms. What else should I do when/before I download them.

Assuming you've installed a custom recovery (I'm partial to TWRP, but CWM is also popular) you've got the tools already installed. You want to boot into recovery mode (hold volume up, home button and power button all at the same time), wait for you to see in blue at the top of your screen the words Recovery Mode and then release the buttons. You'll have some options, one of which is "Backup". That's how you make a nanoid backup of your currently install rom with all installed apps. Once that's done, if you ever need to restore a backup, you've follow the same procedure to get into Recovery and then select Restore.

As far as downloading roms, the link I gave you earlier has all the roms available. Instructions for downloading and installing are usually posted in the first post. It's important to read those instructions and make sure you understand to avoid any problems.
