Root [Verizon] issues with update

Hey everyone,

I had my Verizon Galaxy S3 rooted with custom recovery and had the unlocked bootloader so I can do wifi tether. Well today, i accepted the new update and when it was all said and done, I had a message on my phone that it couldnt update (presumably cause of the root). If I check in "about phone" it shows I have the latest build and the new features. But when i boot up my phone, the bootup screen shows a picture of a lock (an unlocked lock) and the word custom under it. And I also still have root on the phone.
The message about not being able to update is weird, since I have all the new features.
Is it possible to remove the root and flash a clean pre update 4.1.2? If i do that, will I still be able to receive the latest OTA update? I just want a clean unrooted version of the newest update, I'll re-root at a later point in time.

Thanks for any responses

Hello Rube!
Yes there is a way to flash the 4.1.1 firmware, then take the update to the newest version.
However, it will wipe your apps/data/contacts etc. You might want to save what you need saved before doing so, ya know? :)

It's odd that the update did what it did, even though you have a custom recovery/unlocked bootloader.

Edit: where are my manners???? WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!! :D

Thanks Mike!
I'm not super tech savvy, but i'll check around how to do that. When i do install the previous version, will I be able to check for updates through the phone and should it offer the latest update over the air?

Thanks

Check post # 2 here:
http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...ot-root-list-utilities-roms-kernels-more.html

It has a link to unroot and go back to stock.
Like I said, you will lose apps/contacts etc. So be sure to backup at least your contacts to your gmail/google account.

Once you flash the firmware thru ODIN, and boot up your device, it will connect to the network and either offer the update, or you can check for it then accept it.

:)

Let me know if you need help with anything o.k.?

awesome, thanks for your help! The only thing i wasnt sure of was, that since i already accepted the latest OTA update, that it would be available again if I flash 4.1.1
Sounds like i should be able to check and accept it!

Mike - you are the man!
I flashed 4.1.1, set up my phone. Checked for an update and had a 150Mb update available (which I'm guessing is the last 2 updates to 4.1.2)
Phone is updating now!
Thanks again for all your help!

QFT ;)

Also, you should get the OTAs one at a time, so you'll have one finish installing, then check again and make sure you don't have another update ready to go.

At least that's how it is for me on sprint

Yes you are correct! After the first update which was 150Mb, I checked and there was the latest 128Mb one, which is updating now!

Thanks
Rube
