any countdown timer that actually works?

i was rather surprised to find a couple of features missing from android, having just moved from a sony-ericsson w200i (a phone which i bought for a fifth of the price of my new galaxy), in which these features seemed obvious

i did get tone picker to sort out the lacking ringtone settings etc. but when i tried to find a simple countdown app i hit a bit of a wall
from the ones i tested out, "oi countdown" and "countdown alarm" seemed to work ok up until the point the alarm rang and i couldn't shut the thing up in any other way than booting the whole phone
"snappy countdown timer" is the closest i've found for a simple app to remind you when your pizza is done, but that has the annoying issue of the ui being way too sensitive to pick a specific time (on minute-scale)

so is there a simple app to do the job of an egg timer that actually works?

that one doesn't seem to be able to run in the background, which is pretty dumb, but so far it's easily the most usable for my purposes, thanks :)

tho' i wouldn't use the word simple to describe it, the ui is pretty horrid

I've tried a few, and none of them worked worth a dang for me either.

Just need something simple, like a kitchen timer.

exactly - maybe if i get some spare time at some point i'll look into making one

I dont know if thsi is part of HC Sense or Android standard, but on my hero there is a nice countdown timer option when you touch the clock app. It also runs in the background; i just tested it.

try touch timer by Adam Thole. Very simple countdown timer. Quite effective. Uses your ringtones as alarms.

i did try touch timer as well, but it had the same problem as oi countdown and countdown alarm, in that it wouldn't shut up after the alarm went off

i did however find "tea timer" which works brilliantly :)

+1 for this. The default built in clock works great. It has clock/alarm/stopwatch/timer all in one.

The stopwatch isnt the best, but the rest work great.

Ultrachron is the best Timer and Stopwatch app that I have found. The timer works great and even has a mode to speak the countdown time. :D

Try my application: Kitchen Timer

My personal fav is "Timer" by intuitit. Runs in the background, easy to set timers, multiple timers, and interval sounds.

There's an app in the Market called Sleepy Timer that will work perfectly. It displays the countdown time remaining in the notification area for a upto a 24 hour period. It also will disable Audio, Bluetooth, Network, or Wifi based on what you choose.

@jd82 "Try my application: Kitchen Timer" absolutely! perfekt timer: - up to three timers simultaniously - working properly while screen's saved or locked - no ads - it's free .. there are more beautyful timers though, but there all missing sth important

This sounds like the one I use. If it is, really cool and love it. Love the simplicity of it. Like being able to set up to 3 timers at once. Like being able to create my own profiles and back them up to SD card. Uses hardly any battery and runs in the background. Easy to turn off ringer by just pressing the red highlighted 000.

You should try TimerDroid.
It is a timer app which allows you to run several timers in parallel and with configurable replays. In addition a widget to start your timers directly is also offered!
