Hey guys, newbie here

Just had my s4 for not even a full two days, and my android os usage seems to be out of control and I have no idea why. Almost 600mb for the os alone. It hasnt been 48 hours yet, at this rate my 6gb monthly cap simply wont cut it. Is this normal? Jesus

its very normal for a new phone. lots of stuff to update. usually its done over wifi and people dont notice

Really? Because my friend had his s4 for 2 weeks now and his android os shows that he used 40mbs of data, while mines used 580mbs now in 42 hours

Turned off all types of syncs yesterday afternoon, and since then my android os tacked on another 100mb of usage. This is ridiculous.

I haven't noticed it, but Android OS sort of covers for a lot of things, like Picasa, Contacts, Calendar, Tethering, etc.

I never used picasa in my 44 hours of having the phone, i didn't tether a goddamn thing either. So my contacts used up near 700mb of data in less than 48 hours?

i did a factory reset 3 hours ago, and my OS usage is 137mb in that short amount of time, when my friends os usage since JUNE 4th is only 65mb?

I said 'etc'. Go into application settings and look at what's under the running tab. And yeah, your data usage is excessive. That's equivalent to one month for me with no tethering.

well there is a shit ton of things running, but none of it shows me whats guzzling my data for no reason.

You could list which are running. You can also see how long they have been running. You can post the biggest offenders here and lets see what we got.

i have my mobile data completely turned off, so nothing is being used. im at home on wifi, i made sure i came home to update everything on wifi after i did my factory reset earlier.

On the wfi data usage screen shows google play store is using the most with over 300mbs of updates, but on the mobile data side, ANDROID OS is still the culprit using the most data for no apparent reason.

Look at your sync settings.

I'd be willing to bet problem solved

look up at the image of my Android OS usage "AFTER" the factory reset. Because after i reset the phone, went through the initial setup again, had EVERYTHING TURNED OFF.

and when i say everything, i mean, EVERYTHING besides the actual data itself. So no weather updates, no location updates, no gps, no sync, no backup NO NOTHING. I didn't even update all my apps till i came home, but when i came home i checked the data usage and ANDROID OS already said 137mb used as u see in the image above.
