I've got a few questions regarding the screen of the Incredible.

  1. It uses the exact same AMOLED screen as the N1 (although for some reason the physical size of the screen on the Incred appears slightly narrower), correct?
  2. The Incredible uses a DIFFERENT touch processing chip than the N1, which is why it doesn't have any of the multitouch issues, correct?
  3. Are both of these points true, and if so, have we confirmed that the Incredible does in fact use the PenTile Matrix pixel arrangement, as described here?

Thanks in advance.

This should answer your second question very clearly.

HTC Incredible and EVO 4G to feature new maXTouch sensors

Im sure the Incredible's display is the same as the Nexus One's which will most likely suffer the same problems, but the good news is that Google said " Google acknowledges these problems for all 2.1 Android phones including the Nexus One and Motorola Droid. The next major release of the Android OS will fix these issues and provide full 24-bit color and improved scaling". The iPhone only does 18 bit color and now all android phones will get 24 bit.

Do the Android developers have a blog or something with the latest information on system updates?

I'll admit I couldn't follow that entire Ars Technica article because I'm a little...slow...but I thought this was a hardware issue and not a software issue.

If it were flush it would have a 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera. I'm fine with it sticking out a bit. 8 megapixels is pretty impressive for a smartphone. As far as the rest of it goes, anyone who is just looking for things to pick apart about this phone needs to do so in a discussion-based way, not a bash-the-phone type of way. There is a HUGE difference. For instance, here is how the topic should have been approached:

Original Poster: "Hey, what do you guys think about the camera on this thing? Do you think that the camera sticking out a bit past the back of the phone will lead to any potential problems? I'm a little concerned about it. Your thoughts?"

THAT'S how you discuss a topic. Any other technique is just in-sighting trouble and trying to be Debbie Downer, and no one in here wants to hear that. Especially after the rave reviews this phone has gotten from pretty much every major tech blog on the internet. If the camera sticking out a bit was going to be a major issue, I'm sure one of the experts would have noted it in their reviews and being a big problem with the phone.

Bottom line is, some members of this forum need to work on how they word things. It's obvious that some people just want to start problems by the way they word things, and we all know it. If you don't want to get along, then get along...right down the road.

Yes yes yes. I definitely need to work on how I word things/ Just one of the reasons I hate texting. Its funny cause if this forum was face to face we would all get along with each other and have an even better time.

So, people can we please stop talking about this phone shipping on the 29th, all the information besides words from the CSR's who we already know that they do not know anything says it ships out on the 28th so you will have it on the 29th!
I don't want to get too excited, but I've already got a tracking number for my Incredible order to be delivered tomorrow before 3pm

thats just weird, surely verizon wouldn't mess up that big. if you did by some miracle get it tomorrow i wonder if they wouldn't let you activate it until the 29th..

sometimes they let some go early so people can tell their friends about it... its like free advertising... this also happened when i ordered my voyager

I apologize if I missed this question somewhere along the line, but I searched and couldn't find it. If anyone more knowledgeable than me can help I'd appreciate it...

On ebay a lot of the OEM chargers state they have a smart IC chip to prevent over charging. I looked and these devices from Monoprice don't say they have such a chip (which I assume means they don't). Will these potentially "over charge" your battery and shorten its lifespan? Or is this IC chip thing just a ploy to make the other items sound better?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, what you're talking about is (though it can be addressed to small extent through software/driver tweaks). He's talking about something else, unrelated.

Did you order online or phone? Do you have your order confirmation email that shows Incredible?

Good for you can't wait to hear what was in the box :)

I'll believe this "it's being sent to me" stuff when I see some actual proof.
What would you like to see, nothing says Incredible on the tracking number, and I've just got a verizon sales order, let me see if I can find something more definite. Worst case, if I get it tomorrow I'll post pix with a hand written note with date and time and my SN of Isror

haha I think you guys are making yourselves look dumber and dumber. If you read my post correctly I said when you lay the phone on its back the lens touches whatever you set your phone on. The iPhone's camera is inside the phone so when you lay it down it doesn't touch anything.

Notice the lens touching the table

I tried. All I see is the beautiful machined aluminum bezel touching the table. Do you really think that HTC would release a $600.00 smart phone at not address this ahead of time.......................................Fail.

I am STILL on the fence between Droid and Incredible

Based on reviews, the Droid has much better battery life and radio reception. Three reviews point this out. Droid has LV overclock kernels, so just as fast as Snap (proven) and now that cool little gamepad add-on (Gamegripper) was released. Also, Droid gets even better battery life OC'd when using a lower voltage kernel.

Less than two weeks for definitive tests, since there will be plenty of Inc's to compare to Droid :)

The reviews I read discussed the display of bars versus another phone. The display of bars as a representation of signal strength is completely arbitrary.

What you want to see is the RSSI (received signal strength) in dB, taken together with the radio's receiver sensitivity. I carry both an HTC Touch Pro and a Motorola phone with a good reputation for RF performance. I travel through rural areas all over the Oklahoma from time to time and don't notice substantial differences between the two in terms of whether I'm in a service area or not. I've looked at the RSSI on both phones in various places, and they track pretty close. And I often talk or transfer data on my HTC just fine when it shows signal but no bars.

Of the two reviews I saw that had at least anecdotal information about actual radio performance, one discussed some problems, the other lauded it's ability to pull data in a NYC subway. But I don't remember either review offering any comparison to other devices under the same conditions, so those anecdotes don't really tell me much.

If you're concerned about RF performance, give it a week or two after release and watch the forums :)

I called it in, talked to a telesales lady and she said it would ship today for delivery tomorrow. I just got the tracking number about 4 hrs ago and the package is sitting in the sorting facility in Memphis, TN atm

It's so overloaded... Took me ages to pre-order...When the rep chat box popped up she/he told me to be patient... Then even longer to pay my bill, but I'll wait on the bill... I'm not in a frantic rush to pay it...

Yeah I've tried 4 times now and just talked to the reps who say the site is being updated.

Here is a free overnight shipping code I got from the Verizon site "FREEOVERNT" . I hope it works for you since I can't seem to place my pre-order.

Shows us the tracking info... all we need to see is where is picked up and where the tracking info has so far... you can block out the actual tracking number and delivery location
