Root [Verizon] Secure fail: Kernel

Verizon keeps pushing a update.
i temp unroot via voodoo and install update.

this is what i get



what do i need to do ?

I am not familiar with VooDoo root keeper....I just wait until the dev's come out with a rom that has the updates baked in.

I surmise that you are getting that message because Voodoo has a glitch in it?
Does Voodoo fool the update into thinking that you have a stock recovery to allow the update to install?

Generally you get that screen if the (locked)bootloader detects usage of a kernel that is not signed properly. Besides rooting/unrooting, what had you done to the phone prior to taking the update?

I have a suspicion that to root you used a custom kernel, and the ota had a new bootloader in it which relocked the device. I may be wrong, but that's my guess.

im able to reboot by holding the home & vol down . which takes me back to restart the phone as normal. then i get a message "unsuccessful update"

The point of rootkeeper is to protect root when you take an ota update so that it doesn't get overwritten when it gets installed. Sometimes otas will fail of the device is rooted, or apps don't work if rooted, so the temp unroot is meant to fool the device that it isn't rooted. However if you don't have stock recovery, no ota can install and rootkeeper can't do anything. You have to flash the Stock recovery back via Odin to her it back to take the ota.

The only method I can think of is to flash a factory image through Odin. There may be another method, but since I don't have the device, I'm not aware of it. However flashing through Odin will wipe the device clean and possibly lock your bootloader if you had it unlocked to begin with. The other option is to use a flashable zip version of the rom pre-rooted and flash that through custom recovery. That one should work well if you have twrp or cwm installed.

I know I had to unroot to troubleshoot my device, then re-root.
But as far as the stock recovery flash/install, I am not sure either. :dontknow:

All I know is a total unroot through ODIN...

And like Jhawkk said, it will wipe your device...so save what you must (pix/music/texts/voicemails etc) and make sure your contacts are backed up to your google account.

i backed up everything using Lookout. since i rooted via Odin, ill try that route.

You will have to have your bootloader unlocked, custom recovery installed if you don't currently, but since you're rooted, it should be quite easy. If you want twrp, you can install it through the goomanager app. If you want cwm, you can do so through the rom manager app.

what are these ?

i have seen the unlocked pad lock so i guess im unlocked correct ?

Those are 2 different custom recoveries.
The recovery screen is accessed with the home/volume up/power button.

In recovery is where you flash roms, make nandroid backups, flash .zip files etc.

Either recovery will work...it's just a matter of preference.
