Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I have a question regarding the EVO, let alone Android phones in general. I traded up from my Palm Pre to the HTC Hero and so far so good (for the most part... I do miss the gameloft and EA games) However the one thing I did notice is there is no proximity sensor on the Hero, in other words my face hits the phone and the screen stays lit... Will the EVO or any Android phone for that matter have proximity sensors? Oh and do 2.0 phones have gameloft and EA games to download?
 
Wow them articles are going to fool a lot of people that don't have common sense . but they were interesting .... interestingly fake . and that stat sheet was a little off from what i heard . it says 20fps but i'm pretty sure the evo does 30 fps and it has digital auto focus not just auto focus .

the proxy sensor is on the evo its just the hero thats missing it but u can time the screen to go off faster for calls.

Saw that earlier and it just shows what that guy doesn't understand about cameras. You will never have the range of control over a photo with a little chip of glass that compares to real SLR lenses. Point and shoot cameras...yes, perhaps.

But not DSLR cameras. The idea that you could have the kind of control over depth of field, focal length, aperture, and all the techniques those things enable with a little cell phone camera is ridiculous. You can keep making the sensors bigger and adding software processing but the best you could do is simulate the effect of a proper lens.
 
well there actually was a company that had a major advance with the nano lense that cell phones use. i cant remember who it was suppose to increase the light input by like 60% more than current

Sounds like it would allow for lower light photos which is a plus but once again, it wouldn't allow for fine grained control over focal length, depth of field, etc. except through software emulation/processing. I guess you could fake it well enough for snapshots and such but I just can't see any point and shoot taking the place of my DSLR for serious photos. I love a P&S or phone cam for just being out and about but when I want control over my shots I bring my DSLR and a couple of lenses.

lmao. That is if the funniest thing I heard today.
Going to replace DSLR. Oh that is priceless.

I can just see me attaching my 300mm lens to my cellphone. To get that picture of the eagle in mid flight.

Then attaching my 35 1.2l to the camera to get the low light picture of the fog drifting across the field.

That is just priceless.

The reason there is dslr, is because one lens can not do it all.

And not only does he believe that a fix digital zoom is best, in the same breathe honestly think that a 12mpix non zoom, would ever replace a 24 mpix camera and a dozen of lens.

I hope no one else falls for those clearly fake articles. They're obviously written in jest.

I have already read that the EVO will record at 30 fps, as well as have full Flash support and not just Flash Lite.

The only thing I'm a little jealous about on the new Iphone is the screen resolution, 480x800 is a nice resolution but 960x640 should look amazingly sharp.

The funny part is how they think just because the size of the sensor in megapixels is growing, that means the cameras are getting closer to matching the high end ones. Megapixels matter but only to an extent. My Nikon D40 is an entry level DSLR and it only has a 6.1 megapixel sensor. Doesn't change the fact that I take way better photos with it than I can take with my 12 megapixel Canon point-and-shoot. Big poster size blow-ups aren't as much of an option but it's good enough for flickr and prints.

Agreed. Those servers and switches are easily $3-5K apiece (MINIMUM).

In good hands most dslrs will out do p-a-s.


But on thing you must remember. Down sampling. Horrible noise on a 24 mpix will downsize to nothing. Horrible noise on a 6 mpix you are stuck.

Do a test. Go to dpreview. Take a 24 mpix noise picture and downsample to 6 mpix.

The difference is amazing.

Sorry you own a nikon by the way, :-)

Yup. Very good point. I'm not a camera expert at all, which is why all my friends have DSLR's and I don't...LOL...but even I had enough common sense to know that this won't happen.

And I do agree that they could potentially replace P&S cameras, but could never imagine phones w/ cameras replacing DSLR's. That's almost like saying Great Oil Paintings will eventually be replaced by Good Prints of those paintings...HAHAHA.

My Nikon is just fine and it was a gift so I'm not complaining. I learned on a Nikon D70 and the D40 has been an excellent camera. If I make the move from hobbyist to freelancer then I will probably buy a new camera body. For now I am cool just learning lighting and technique with my D40 :)

Also that first "FAIL" is fake. There is no "bluescreen" application. When you get the crash log (BSOD) the windowing environment is not running anymore either.
