Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Still scouring for a 4.3 build for my S3. There's a couple out there but things look to be still very beta at the moment. Guess I'll be sticking with 4.2.2 a little longer.
Stigy, do you (or anyone for that matter) know if LE BT will help with any battery life when using Pebble?

That long wait for the update...

it is going to be a very long wait and from one crackflasher I have tried all of the 4.3 roms and yes they are very beta and none are at the level of a dayley driver

WOO I now get to help more of my fellow androidans :D

Morning everyone! Hope you all had a nice weekend. Spent most of the day Saturday putting down laminate flooring with my Dad and Grandfather. Didn't quite get done, made it all the way to the last row where we had to trim up the door frame a little and had to stop so they could get back home. I think it's to the point where I can finish it this week though. Just need one more row and then the closet.

BB, congrats on completing your mud-run. I've been wanting to do one of those for a while. I think I'm going to hunt one of those to do next year. Also, I would've done the same thing you did...get up and take a shower BEFORE the run, haha. I've been known to take 3-4 showers some days. I always take one in the AM and any time I come back inside for a break from working outside. :p

Good morning all - happy Monday.

Played my first full 18 holes of golf yesterday and my body is not happy about it. Fitbit says I took 17k steps during the 18 holes, which sounds about right. Was definitely a nice workout and got some good tips & pointers on my game. Definitely enjoyable to be out there and it was a gorgeous day.

Anyone running a 4.3 ROM? I am running a test 4.3 ROM and getting a lot of data drops so I may go to a CM-based 4.3 ROM or back to 4.2.2 for now.

It is supposed to help battery life of both devices by a small bit, yes.

We have to wait for Pebble to update the software running on the watch to support BLE first though. Its still using Classic Bluetooth.

Just waiting for Fitbit to update their app so I can sync my One with my phone too.

Yeah, it does require BT 4.0?
Sorry, does what - the Fitbit?

If you're talking about the Fitbit it requires your phone to have BT4.0 and the app to have a way to connect to the GATT server on the device and get the data off of it when it scans for it. I'm 99% sure that the 4.3 custom ROMs have got BT4.0 working on our phone, but we need to wait for the Fitbit app to support native BT4.0 (BLE) instead of it just supporting Samsung's implementation of it before 4.3 was available and a native API existed.

Thanks, yeah it was one of the much better reasons why iOS is better for Fitbit.
The wireless sync with my laptop is fine, but it'd be nice to gather info on my phone throughout the day.

Once the app is updated, if you run a 4.3 ROM on the Galaxy Nexus and it either includes the BLE changes or you flash a BLE enabler zip in recovery it will do the same as iOS.

It's on Fitbit right now to update their app to support native BLE implemented in the 4.3 APIs.

Glad I'm not the only crazy one!
It's a 5k with obstacles. Some were closed due to the rain but the ones that were open were so fun. I'm a little bruised (no, can't show pics because of where I'm bruised) but it was a blast!

Nice job BB! Looks like fun.

NOW, for your next event...

Reaching out to you guys for a little help. Anyone know of a way to make iOS group messaging work on Android? Wife complains constantly about her iOS friends sending group messages and it not working on her Rezound. I've tried Chomp, Handcent, and Go SMS and GO SMS seems to work best but still not flawlessly.

Android 4.2.x supports it natively but I used to use GO SMS before it supported it within the OS.

Cool. I honestly was considering buying my wife an iPhone because of this. Not a week goes by where I don't have to hear something about her phone not working and I have to explain it isn't her phone...it's the way Apple devices treat group messages. I knew the few times I got a group message from an iOS device it worked ok on my stock app, but thought I just didn't get enough of them to see the errors she got.

It's Apple using MMS headers to direct threads into groups if it contains multiple To: addresses - its honestly pretty clever.

I heard way too many complaints about Android and just told the fiancee to get an iPhone when her upgrade was up and she loves it. To each their own.

Other than that one issue my wife has loved her Rezound. If that was fixed in native Android 4.2 then she will be good with any phone. Her only other complaint is that newer Android phones are getting too big. She wouldn't even discuss getting the HTC one this weekend after seeing it in person. I told her the Moto X would be smaller than her Rezound.

Your S3 running TouchWiz (not sure if you are still running it) should be able to sync with the Fitbit app with no issues at all.

You really think I would run a TW ROM?! :p
Nah, I'm on a 4.2.2 CM derivative (called Beanstalk).

Got to check out and play with the new Nexus 7 today at Staples since BB was too awesome to put it on the shelves.
Looks great, and since they had it side by side with the original I was able to better compare them. Screen is absolutely gorgeous, but with how little I use ours, it's not worth it for me. But, look like I'll be loading up a beta CM 10.2 (4.3) ROM on it shortly. :D

So the only BLE option (prior to 4.3) was Samsung's implementation on the S3, S4 and Note II - everything else won't work.

With that being said, anything with a BT4.0 chip and running a 4.3 ROM with the BLE code fixed (our phone) will work if the app / device supports it.

Here is a package to flash the BLE specific code if it is not included specifically in your ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387107

My S3 is my daily driver now. Is BT 4.0 native to stock 4.2 on the S3?
BT4.0 is native to stock on TouchWiz S3 - once you flash 4.2 AOSP ROM's you lose Samsung's implementation of BT4.0 on the S3.

Once there is a 4.3 ROM available for the S3 you will regain BT4.0, but done correctly through Google's native API.

Make sense?
