NYC Launch Day Events

Hey there.

How about we get some launch day event talk going. I live in the NYC area, and if the rumors about a BestBuy launch on 6 June are correct, then I'll be there on that day.

It'd be cool if we could all get together -- for a beer, to wait in line together, check out the phones, to upload pics, to support AndroidForums.com and Phandroid.

What does everyone think about that?

Let's make this thing concrete.

Date: 6 June / 13 June (Determined by Official Release) (Perhaps confirmed here)

Location: http://stores.bestbuy.com/482/
Best Buy Store
23rd Street and 6th Avenue

Time: 10am (breakfast); 11am (store opening)

Attendees:
esone1ll
LatinP
jgangsta

UPDATE: I pre-ordered at the Radio Shack here: http://is.gd/cnord

Humm wonder how many of you guys live in the city? How about a meet up outside the event on that day?

That's what I'm saying! I think we need to get this thread going. If BestBuy does have a 6 June pre-release, then I think forum members will be spending their Sunday afternoon in line.

So how about esone1ll? I'ts not my thread so I won't hijack it but set the time, date & place on this post and make a list see who'll show up. Even if it's just 5 or 6 of us could be fun. I'll be the first to sign up.

Original post updated!

Oh boy1 This should be fun. Don't forget to add a list of names of people who have already signed up.

Will do! I wonder if the launch will be remotely similar to an iPhone launch. I expect not, but a guy can hope, can't I?

Let's hope this place that we all possibly meet up @ has enough evos to go around otherwise there are gonna be some unhappy people there

Out of curiosity, what kind of work do you New Yorkers do that a) allows you to afford living there and b) allows you to browse tech forums all day like me :)

I've posted this in other threads, but Best Buy has not received any information on the EVO. If they have, they haven't released it to anyone at store level. There hasn't been any mention of the EVO in our employee news AT ALL. Information about the Incredible only showed up at the beginning of last week. Any rumors of an early release at this point are just that, rumors. Believe me, I will be posting any info about BB as soon as I get some.

Desk jobs are desk jobs...with computers. :)

And, NYC isn't as expensive as you think!

I'll just order it through telesales on Thursday before the release date. I'll stand in line with you guys, so you can see what I will have been using for 2 days ;)

Dunno, man...I looked around a year ago and rents on tiny apartments were still $2500+. Not sure how much that has changed but doing the math, my girlfriend and I would need to make a good deal more than we make now in order to keep any kind of similar standard of living. Anyway it was just curiosity. I know people who think I'm nuts to pay $1500/month to rent a townhouse in Baltimore when the burbs have houses for less, etc. It's all a matter of where you work and the amenities IMO. proximity to things and bonuses like Wimax make it worth the extra couple hundred a month.

$2500 for tiny studios is for Manhattan, only one of our five boroughs. Queens and Brooklyn are much, much cheaper. Astoria, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Queens:

new york all no fee apts classifieds "astoria" - craigslist

If you pay $1500 now, you'll be right at home there.

Now, back on topic...

Yeah I looked around some...it ended up being not the right time. Girlfriend was finishing law school and we were thinking of cities we might want to move from Baltimore. Ended up getting her best offer right here in Baltimore where a nice big townhouse with a roof deck and patio and all the typical upgrades can be had for the price of an apartment in another city. Since she has the job now we likely won't be moving for another few years. I was willing to risk the job market again if she got a good enough position in another city but for now that is on hold. I can still ride up there on the Bolt Bus or Amtrak when I feel like spending the weekend in NYC anyway :)
