Root I knew this would happen...

Hook

Ever since DU... ;-)
...now that I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted, I'm already getting restless to try out a new ROM since, really, all the hard work has been done. I just have to make sure I have both a flashable stock ROM and a good Nandroid backup.

I'm thinking of trying out the stable CyangenMod first, just because I loved CM so much on my Nexus One (but that was CM7). What are folk's opinions on CM these days?

Its great if thats your only available custom rom im running pac-man since we have like 10+ roms out and 3+ that are 4.3 pac-man by far best rom i have run so far awesome features

Obviously, I can flash anything that is available for Tilapia. Pac-Man sounds interesting in terms of being CM based but combining features for 2 other ROMs. Hadn't run into it before. It would help if you gave me details on what you like about it, especially compared to CM 10.1.2

I've mostly been considering CM as the logical place to start since I had such a good experience with it before.I am sure I'll get around to trying others, but I can be easily be talked into trying something else. Just give me a few details, either about why CM isn't as good anymore or why the new suggestion is better.

I probably should have used a better title for this thread so that I would get more responses...

A question for folks using CM 10.1.x nightlies. How stable are these in the scheme of things. I don't mind a little adventure here or there. Are there any problems with BT (I have a keyboard case coming). How often do you reflash a newer nightly?

I may still go for the CM 10.1 stable. I never flashed nightlies with my Nexus One, just RCs, but I'm tempted. Any opinions for someone who is technical enough to blow things up but not necessarily technical enough to fix them. ;)

EDIT: Just noticed the 10.1.3 RC... may go with that. ;)

i was running CM10.1.2 before i decided to unroot. and it was my favorite custom ROM on the tablet. i've tried PA, and AOKP on it before, but to me, they felt like additional features that i didn't care for. so all it did was make the overall experience slow with those ROMs.

as for nightlies, my personal thought on them is to use them after a "monthly" version is released. cause at least at that point, they're pretty stable. and flashing every nightly is not needed. i tended to go every other night or longer. unless of course you chose to flash a nightly that was super buggy and had to be addressed.

Well I did it. Flashed CM 10.1.3 RC. I'll wait to try 10.2 for a while. Really enjoying playing around with CM again.

Just for fun I rolled everything back to stock Android 4.3, unrooted and bootloader relocked (using WUG's Toolkit) in order to be able to get the KitKat OTA update. I'll play with it a while when it comes, but will eventually reroot, of course.

PAC-Man is the best in term of functionality. It is, IMO, designed for the super geeks. I absolutely love it. With that being said, Cyanogenmod is the top dog in stability. I have been running 10.2 since the first nightly and I have only upgraded 2 times. Super reliable. Everything I could ever ask for. I am done with 10.2 and am patiently awaiting the arrival of 11 at the end of this month. I am running 4.4 Kitkat now just for kicks. Got the PA_AOSP alpha release. So far so good. Ran a Titanium backup of all my apps in 4.3 and had no issues restoring them to 4.4.
