Yes you can, please search Youtube as it was displayed at the CITA event.

sorry, here you go, was being lazy, around the 3:00 mark, they streamed HD content over 4G and then played it on the phone.

On the video he did say streaming HD BUT in the Sprint official Specs it says:
High-quality video streaming and downloads at 3G and 4G data speeds
Capture and share HD-quality video (720p) from your phone
Output pictures, slides and videos in HD quality (720p) via HDMI cable (sold separately)

If it is or isn't HD on phone it looks great anyway.

I'm not sure what point you're trying make here. If it has to do with the EVO displaying 720p, it is impossible.

The resolution of 720p is 1280x720. The EVO's is 800x480.

There is no argument here. Any video recorded at 720p would have to be downscaled to the EVO's resolution for playback on the device, hence it would not be 720p.

However, connecting an HDMI cable to an HDTV or monitor capable of outputting 720p would get you the full resolution display.

 Dude, come on, why are you trying to prove that it is impossible? There are many, many variants of HD and not just the 16:9 ration that you provided. WVGA that the EVO is equipped with is capable of displaying HD content without cropping.. However, the size of the content will be smaller on the screen since the aspect ration is custom sized for the phone.

actually widescreen ratio (16:9) IS part of the 720p spec. Android17 is correct the native resolution of the display must be at least 1280x720. The iPad can't display in HD even though it can PLAY HD content, and the same is true with the EVO. Sure, you can save HD content on an SD card or even stream it to the phone, but unless you're going to output it to an HD display you are NOT going to be watching it in HD.

edit: ok fine some people consider 4:3 HD but you're still looking at 960x720 and thats still too much for this display. there's just no way of candy coating it, you can do everything with it but display the content in HD

Uh, because it is impossible to view HD (720p+, that is) on the Evo? Period? Or on any other phone, for that matter? 1280x720 is larger than 480x800. That is not up for debate.

There is no way to display something with an area of 4 on something only able to display an area of 2, unless you crop or rescale. That's it.

I keep seeing these May rumors now....I'm not saying they're credible but usually where there's smoke there's fire...

I am not sure how credible online reps are but he was rather quick to respond and confirm what he stated.

I was kinda shocked when the sales rep at the sprint store told me that the retail manager said May as well. So I don't know. I hope so. Than i can get it soon than later..er if I have the money...lol. Hey I will be happy with Evo.

I'm a woman and I CAN'T WAIT to get an EVO! I love having the latest and greatest in cell phones! My family always teases me about getting new phones all the time.

that's great but the EVO is NOT a cell phone! It's a lot more then that. just sayin' ;)

Tier 1 Online OR Phone reps have 0.0000 credibility. They know about as much as the consumer and aren't given ANY information until the last minute.
Having worked in the industry before I whole heartedly agree! Although sometimes they do stumble upon a little info. I stress sometimes! I would be more likely to believe this guy I know, who knows this girl who dated this guy who knew another guy who had a cat that got hit by a car in front of a Sprint store. And then this manager came out to see what the noise was and he dropped a piece of paper that this dog picked up in its mouth while it was eating the cat and a dog catcher got it and posted it on Youtube and it stated the Evo would be released on......what were we talking about? :)

Finally got to play with an HD2 today and WOW, the screen is huge yet it's really not bigger than my iPhone. I don't see a problem fitting this thing into a pocket.

Seriously though, I fully expect a June release but on the other hand I have seen some information that leads me to believe a late May release is possible. I guess we will all have to wait and see. This is no lie and I almost hate to say this but I will. My best friend is marrying a girl whose father happens to be one of the main guys in charge of EVERYTHING Sprint around my neck of the woods, and I don't mean just my town. :) Anyway he gave me 100% spot on info. for the release date of the Pre. Sometimes he has been known to score a device days if not weeks in advance for someone who is "close" to him. I cannot take it anymore so I may have to beg for some info. Also I may have to take the job he offered me a while ago too :) I will let you guys know what I can if I can find out anything....no promises though.

Hey guys, the manager at the local Sprint store told me May as well. (I hope)
Like I said I hope it is sometime in May but slot of managers and especially sales people state their hopes and opinions as fact. Sprint is being ultra James Bond on this one!

I like how everyone disses the Pre, and though it really does seem to have horrible build quality, you guys are all still lucky, I'm stuck with a late 2008 model Samsung Rant, lol.

I cannot wait to ditch this phone. It's like some of you guys are switching from a PS2 to a PS3, and I'll be switching from a Super Nintendo to a PS3, heh.

I wish I had a Pre instead right now, but it won't matter in a couple of months :)

Haha, I know it seems like a lot of people loathe their Pre's. I personally love mine, but the build IS kinda crappy. I still think it's an awesome phone, but the EVO is just WAY more awesome!!! ;)

I liked mine too but that damn Windows Mobile killed it for me. Even with Sense it was a pig in lipstick, also after a week it got a little buggy. I will tell you this, you are now ruined for any smaller screen. I went to a Desire with the same 3.7 inch screen as the Nexus and wow! It is like the difference between The Nexus and a Hero or iphone! I nedd that 4.3 back!!!! :)

Yeah, the build quality on all 5 of my Pre was ...meh. Hey! I used to live in Killeen! Welcome! :)
