Stoopid Noob Question, Swapping my phone?

mrsmumbles

Android Enthusiast
Hi all,

I know this must have been asked a million times but I haven't found that thread.

I ordered a new phone from Best Buy mobile for my BM phone number and I'm not sure how to go about swapping the new device for the old one. I don't have a PIN only an account number and I don't know what else I'm supposed to have or do.

Clues for the clueless would be appreciated. Please don't sneer or throw rotten tomatoes. Thanks. :o

You can do it online at Boost mobile and it takes about 10 minutes.
Just go to Boost mobile, click on my account and go from there.

Thank you! There are only two problems, I don't have my pin though. I have an account number but it's longer than 4 digits. Is the pin something you only use on the site? And my other problem is I can't get my typing to show up on the site. When I try to type in the blanks nothing happens and this phone is my only means of getting online these days. Thanks again.

Hi, thanks. But I still can't input anything into the boxes. I type but it won't appear on the screen. I never had this problem before.

Maybe you should see if you can use a computer at your local library or see if a friend will let you use there's. Unfortunately Boosts site is not optimized for mobile.

Thanks, I'll probably have to do something like that. Has anyone else had this problem on the BM site, typing from their wireless phone?

I had problems logging onto boost's website. Best thing to do is use a different browser. I recommend Firefox. Its a large app but its one of the better web browsers I've used.

As far as your PIN #... It's usually the last 4 of your phone number until you set up your voicemail and it asks you to change your PIN.

If you don't already know, or haven't figured it out, your account # is your phone number.

If you decide to call to activate your phone, be sure to write down the MEID# and I think the HEX#. Probably best to call from a different phone. I've gone online to activate a phone but it's usually faster to call.

Hope this helps and welcome to Boost.

Thank you, Mydyan and Spencer!!!! I'm not sure why the account number I was given is different from my phone number. It's 12 digit number. I will do it over the phone since I may not have enough space to install Opera. I'm very glad to hear I can do this over the phone. I do have another phone line luckily.

(My phone which types invisibly on the BM online forms is a Kyocera Hydro, don't waste your money on this phone anyone, it's barely lasted 6 months and it's slow and crashes constantly and shuts itself off, etc).

Thank you both again, and everyone else, so much!

Hi again, I can't find the MEID #? I found the HEX number under the battery but I don't see the MEID number. Where should that be? Thanks!

And I meant to say Firefox instead of Opera before, sorry for the garble.

Look in system settings>about phone>status.

Thank you! I found the MEID and now I have to find the ESN according to stuff I saw in a Google search. It should be inside the battery case somewhere and start with D:179 . Too bad they don't put all these numbers in one place. Thanks again.

AFAIK you only need your meid to activate

Out of curiosity, what phone are you attempting to activate? In the event it's not something sold by Boost, they don't currently have a BYOD (bring your own device) policy in place.

I thought this at one time as well but actually no it is not. I learned this from a failed attempt when trying to port my number to Google Voice. I had to call Boost to get the number. They probably do it for security reasons. Otherwise anyone could steal your number and port it somewhere else.

The new phone when it arrives is a BM, LG Optimus F7. It's supposed to get here on Wednesday I think.

Makes sense! Never thought of that. I only know on the Boost website that my account # is the same as my phone #. Learned something new

I've been anxiously waiting by the window for 5 1/2 hours for UPS. The driver doesn't even come half the time. I don't have any idea if he'll ever come today.

My poor little Hydro has been on perfect behavior all day. I'll miss the ease of my Hydro in my hand (but my eyes won't!).

I'm waiting to get any of the cases I ordered and the screen protectors because it's dusty here. I haven't even opened the box yet. :o

Hopefully I'll get this done soon. I realized that the MEID # I'll need will likely be off the new phone rather than the old one, or maybe they'll need both.

I still can't find an ESN on the old phone and hopefully that won't be needed.

I was relieved to see the BM support number is active 7 days a week, until 11pm ET.
I'm excited about my new phone but I'm really going to miss the small size of my old phone and ease of holding it. I want to help my eyes out with the larger screen on the new phone. It's really sort of bittersweet. I've been through a lot with my little Hydro. It's performed surprisingly well for an inexpensive phone although it is less than a year old. Still, a computer this small which works so comparatively well for so little money! It's really amazing.

These smartphones are pretty cool huh? Glad you got ur new phone, you have more resolve than me tho. I usually just tear the box to get to my new device! Lol. The numbers you usually need to activate the phone are usually located behind the battery. Or better yet, on the box itself. If you have problems finding them, when you call to activate, the Boost rep will walk you thru the steps. Good luck with the new phone and if u want to send me your Hydro, let me know! ;)

Haha! Thank you! :D I'd love to rip the box open but I'm afraid to get the new phone covered in dust, etc so soon.

Yes, these phones are very cool! I'm awfully attached to my little Hydro. I'm so sad it won't be in concurrent use... unless I can use it with WiFi at home without Boost?

I can't really bear the thought of my good little Hydro being out of commission. Or away... :p

Good News!! U can use the Hydro as a mini-tablet with Wi-Fi! Another good thing about these phone! A little dust never hurt anything, tear that box open!
