Best headphones?

You didn't state whether in-ear or over-the-ear.

In any case, I just got a pair of these:

Don't let the $40 price tag fool you, they are really constructed well and sound fantastic! First pair of headphones I've ever owned that I did not have to EQ. Running them as-is sounds beautiful. Sub-bass performance is very good. 3-year warranty! Made of aluminum and seem very sturdy.

The only down side is the cloth cord which introduces some swooshing rubbing sounds as the cord brushes up against clothing and whatnot. But if you flip them upside down in your ears and loop the cord over the top of your ears, that eliminates most of it.

And Beats are way WAAAAAAAAAY over-priced, over-hyped, over-rated.

I am currently using these, and have been for quite sometime, I think over three years now.

Uprock - Black

I plan to replace them sometime next year with something a little louder and bigger, used solely for listening to music. These Uprocks have been used for everything from simple sound tracks, to playing games.

For in-ears, Klipsch do a good range, with mic.

Over the ears, Sennheiser HD25-1 (biased recommendation, bought mine in 2005), adjustable headband, replaceable parts, including coloured parts, there's even a Nike branded version, used by DJ's producers & media technicians. There is a variant that has a mic attachment but that will make you look like a sports TV commentator :D . Cable is quite long though.

I bought a set of those right after they came out. I say 'a set', actually I wound up having 3 or 4 sets as they kept falling apart.

They claimed this was a production issue that hopefully they've now fixed because, like you say, they were pretty comfortable, sounded great and that cord seemed to tangle a little less than normal. Unfortunately, after the last set fell apart, I gave up on them.

I currently have a set of MEElectronics SP6 which are pretty good. The sound is almost up with the RHAs, the mic works well and - so far (touchwood) - I haven't had any problems with them .. which is unusual for me. They also loop over the top of the ear which I like as it seems to keep them in the ear better.

And Beats are way WAAAAAAAAAY over-priced, over-hyped, over-rated.

Undoubtedly, but for some reason they're trendy and that seems to trump price or quality for many
