I hope you guys heard about the announcement of the Steam Box(es) and SteamOS, I am very excited I hope you guys are too. I have so many questions like if I run it on my Macbook will it run all the games I want without restriction finally, and what are some of you guys' thoughts?

I am not sure if you will be able to play all games right out of the box on your macbook. Its more of a living room os haha

So, Who can build a hardcore gaming rig cheaply?

I think a person interested in home theater gaming would be much happier with a cheaper ps4/xbox 1?

A gaming quality PC Rig tends to be more expensive than console devices.

That is true, but the cost is coming down, and is much lower than it used to be. I remember that last tower rig I built for gaming, cost me a good bit, but at least it was also great for everything else computer related I wanted to do, seeing as gaming/video works the PC the hardest..

You could probably get a decent gaming rig for maybe

Just an update: SteamOS 1.0 is out, and Valve does assure us that its only for those fluent in Linux (for now). I may install it soon :D I'm getting a 1TB HDD for Christmas.

Just installed it in a VM. Might play around with it some other time

A coworker of mine signed up to be a beta tester, and who would have guessed it, but he actually was chosen.

He received his steambox last night via fedex, in a big wooden crate. Inside nicely packaged was the 12' x 12.5' x 2.5' steambox. He brought it in to work today.

Its not pretty looking thats for sure haha.. It weighs about 20lbs. The controller that came with it for beta is a much cheaper version of the above poster.

For his specs he got the mid-high level version.. It has 16gb ram, a gtx780 gpu with 3gb of memory, an Intel i5 quad core.. so it will definitely play games. There are a few other versions, only one better than the one he received.

"mid-high" is right. I have all that except for the GPU...

I didn't get in on that at all despite qualifying :p

II'll be getting a 1TB HDD on Christmas so I'll install SteamOS, then resizigin it w/ Ubuntu and I can report on it. I'm pretty excited to try it

The "high" end one has the evga titan for a gpu, along with an i7.

All i see the steam box as is a more compact version of a pc, because its running a modified version of linux.

So my guess is currently they want to just get in your living room, by designing a computer that looks similar to a gaming console.. after that they will be trying more
