Google Play Music through Chromecast

When I first got my Chromecast, I tried casting music from my phone's Play Music app to the TV. Unfortunately, I had only uploaded a few songs to my Play Music library, so it wasn't that useful. I realized that I wanted to utilize the feature a bit more recently, so uploaded my entire music collection to my Play Music Library. I still keep music on my external SD card on my phone to listen to on the go (capped data plan prevents a lot of streaming) using Poweramp. However, when I try to cast music to the Chromecast, if the song is stored on my external SD, Play Music won't play it via Chromecast, even though it's also stored in my Play library.

Does anyone know of a way around this, short of deleting the songs from my phone? Is there a setting in the Play Music app where I can tell it not to look for music on my SD card? Thanks

You can remove the songs from your phone and still have them stored locally via Google Play Music.

I did it recently. All of my music is on Google Play Music, and whenever I add music, I just go and pin it. That will cause it to download the music and store it locally(although it will be invisible on mass storage).

I'm glad I did this as I just barely ordered a Chromecast today.

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with how to do this. Can you give me a quick step by step on how to store the music locally via google play and have it invisible via mass storage? Thanks again.

First, remove the music from your sd card.

Next, go into the Play Music app and select My Library. Make sure it shows all music and not just on device (you can change this by tapping My Library.

Next, go into each album and press the pin.

This will download the album. You will need to do this in each album you want on the phone.

This was perfect. Thank you so much. I searched Google's forums for hours and couldn't find anything like this. Much much appreciated.

No problem.

I can't wait to get mine and try it out...just got the shipment confirmation email from Amazon.
