hub that can control 3 wireless mice

VoidedSaint

Does anyone know if this exists yet?
my boss wants me to find a hub or something that can control 3 wireless mice at the same time.

basically a dr. walks into three different patient rooms and uses 3 different wireless mice but without having to plug in multiple wireless connectors.

he used to have wired mice and would have to continue to plug and unplug each mouse.

he doesn't want to carry one wireless mouse into the room with him(most dr.s are lazy) but instead wants them in the room ready for him to use.

anyone know if this can be achieved? I would think the wireless signal would cause a lot of issues when 3 are connected at the same time.

I've never needed anything like that and really don't know. However...

I'm confused. Where are the computers he's using the mice with? Aren't they already in the rooms? So why aren't the mice in the rooms with the computers? (I'm picturing my vet's office right now, and that's exactly how his is set up--computer in each room, wireless mouse right there with each computer.) What am I missing?! :)

I think that's sort of the opposite of what's needed here. This would allow one computer to have multiple wireless devices (mouse, keyboard, etc.) connect to it without needing their own receivers. The OP needs multiple instances of one wireless device (mouse) connected to one computer, but with one receiver controlling all of the wireless mice. I THINK. :)

In other words:

computer #1 - mouse #1 \
computer #2 - mouse #2 - > all mice plugged into one receiver/hub
computer #3 - mouse #3 /

I'm confused as well. Every doctor's surgery I've seen in the consulting rooms and offices, there's the PCs with mice connected to them. Doctors and other staff are not carrying computer mice around with them AFAIK.

IANAD but I carry a mouse with me when I'm at work, but then I'm carrying a laptop as well. :D Because I prefer to use a mouse rather than the built-in trackpad.

I actually wondered if the OP means that the doctor is carrying a computer (presumably a laptop) from room to room...but that made so little sense to me I discarded it! Besides, if the doc doesn't mind lugging a computer around, why would he mind lugging a mouse around, too? :D

The first thing that came to me was the Logitech solution that Palmtree mentioned.

Or, if the mice are not 'special', then maybe switch over to bluetooth?

3 mice, one computer? Stupid but doable. 3 mice, 3 computers? More stupid but still doable.

In most medical offices I've set up, each computer has its own mouse, wired, wireless or black magic. 1 computer, one mouse.

Has pointy-hair (your boss) really thought this out?

Perhaps a dumb question but it seems like none of the computers have a mouse by default. My question: if each room has a different computer, why is there not a mouse for each one?

Not dumb at all.

I wish the OP would come back and answer our questions! Once we understand exactly what his setup is, it'll make providing suggestions a lot easier.

This is how I understood it. Dr. has a laptop, carries it room to room and wants a mouse in each room.

My suggestion, BLUETOOTH! One adapter, multiple mice.

If this is indeed the case, then my original suggestion is great for this

Sure, not knowing what the existing configuration of the laptop is that should work. But if the laptop has bluetooth built in, just need to buy 3 compatible mice and pair them to the computer, no extra software or dongles needed.

I dismissed that because if the doctor doesn't mind carrying a COMPUTER from room to room, why would he mind carrying a MOUSE, too?! Heck, I stick my wireless trackballs in my pockets to go out to my patio. They're bigger than a mouse. But I grab one of my laptops plus its matching trackball and head outside. Most docs wear white coats with big pockets (where their prescription pads, stethoscopes, etc., reside), so tossing in a mouse wouldn't be a big deal. But carrying a laptop from room to room? Yeah, I don't know...

I haven't checked on this in a while... oops.

and it is a laptop going from room to room. The dr. is lazy and doesn't want to plug a mouse into the laptop whenever he enters a room(figures)

I dont see the problem with carrying a wireless mouse with him to every patient room but then again dr.s dont like listening.

tablets i wish we could do that, but with the programs we have in place and our type of network that wouldn't work(we are behind at least 10 years in this game, and no matter how hard i try and push new stuff they are always rejected by saying: "that is not company standard."(we are still on windows xp mind you...))

so yea from what I am gathering there isn't going to be any luck for this guy because I myself have never heard of anything close to what he wants. but I wanted to ask you guys before i tell him to wish in one and and **** in the other and see which one fills up faster. :p

thank you for all your input. and sorry for confusing you guides.... you guys/gals need to get with my lingo. :)

report me:) :p

Hey there, VS, thanks for updating us! Now it all makes a lot more sense. :)

palmtree's suggestions are probably the way to go.

Let me toss this out there: How about getting the doc a case to carry the laptop AND the mouse in?! I have a laptop case that's plenty big enough for carrying my largest laptop plus a bunch of other stuff, and its handle makes it easy to carry around. It's a low-tech solution to your problem, but it would work.

I would but this doc has caused me enough problems so he will have to suffer.

you never mess with the tech that fixes your stuff.

so he will just wait or not get it at all, unless he brings up the solution to his problem i'm not going to bother with him :)
