Hello all! I'm new to the community but love all the input I'm getting. I searched through the forums and see alot of the issues people have with their devices and it's discouraging me more and more about my order. So let's switch things up and make a list of what you think your GNEX5 is a beast at. Where it excels, and where it's unique. It would be a relief to see a good list of pros! (:

You have to understand that people who post on a forum have more of a tendency to do so when they run into a problem rather than to say how wonderful a product is, so any forum will give you a very unbalanced picture about a device.

Mine is wonderful indeed. The easiest phone I have ever set up (which is probably due in part that, as my 5th Android device, I'm getting more experienced) and it does every thing I want it to do exceptionally. And, man, is it crazy fast. Yes, I had to fuss around with this and that. Never had a device where I didn't.

Just sit back and enjoy the thrill of anticipation. This little baby is awesome! ;)

Well, it is fast! OK Google is awesome. The camera is good for my uses. So far, no app problems. As I said in another thread (I think it was the battery one) I love this phone!

Yeah i understand your first statement which is why I started this thread. But cool, it sounds like you're having a good experience with it. Can't wait to get mine!

Great styling and pocketable
Excellent screen
Prompt OS updates for at least 18 months
Unlocked GSM so choice of a carrier
OIS on camera (a good feature regardless of what you think about the camera overall)
No bloatware

The speed. This thing FLIES.

Google Experience Launcher is a nice touch.

I, for one, like the camera as well

The ability to use on either a CDMA or GSM network

The only device running android 4.4

So does immersive mode take effect in all apps?

You'll have to remind me, is that the full screen mode where the status bar is hidden?

If so, not currently in every app, but devs are able to add the ability to their apps when they update.

I love this device, battery seems to be a little bit better than my Nexus 4 and I no longer have to worry about hacking to get LTE to work. I haven't used my phone much on this charge, only about 1.5 hours of screen, but it's been off the charger for almost 35.5 hours and I'm still at 56%! I've never had idle battery life this good.

Love basically everything about the phone.

Except battery and my speaker.

Im finding the camera to be much, much better than most people are saying.

Custom kernels and careful settings can fix the issues I mentioned though; otherwise it's basically... Perfect.

Yeah thats what I'm talking about. I like the idea of everything in fullscreen.

Wow thats nice! Much better than my HTC One X. I usually can only make it 8 hours with hspa+ on constantly. straight talk att is my service. Switching to Tmobile when i get my n5 and sim.

I thought my previous phone stunk due to slow t-mobile speed, I found out that it was just the phone. This phone is VERY fast! I was travelling down the road as a passenger and downloaded an app in the time it would have taken my previous phone to open the google play store, or crash while opening the google play store. LOL Of course I had a LG MyTouch 4G and that was a POS.

That's quite a few years old phone isn't it? Lol
Technology changes so fast. Next year the Nex 5 will be crap.

I don't know about it being crap, but if there wasn't always better things coming out the manufacturers would be out of business :D

If you're always waiting for the next best phone that's coming out you'll never end up buying one ;)

Define "crap"...

One of my friends has an HTC Wildfire S and it's just fine for him.
Another one of my friends has a Samsung Galaxy Gio; also just fine for him... Well, besides that the back panel is held on with duct tape, but that's his fault.

I know a friend who has a Nexus S whose phone is just as snappy and useable as everyone else's.

I used to have an iPhone 4.

All the phones above would be "crap" if a year of time was all that was needed to be crap :p I think "average" is a better term than "crap."

I didn't mean crap in that sense so my bad wrong choice of words. I simply meant the Nexus 5 will only be the newest and greatest for about 6 months.

And also I doubt those phones would be able to run a few apps that my One X barley struggles with. They aren't necessarily crap, but they aren't something you see people looking for anymore unless they need parts.

I guess it all depends on the person and uses :p Some people actually wouldnt mind having a really low-performance phone-- it all depends on uses. If all you do is browse the web, some anything with a dual A8 at over 800 MHz should be pretty squeaky clean... Especially on a low-power process like high-k 28nm (not that they make A8s on that anyways) and with one of the FPUs removed... On Android 2.2-2.3(?) of course with ~512 MB of RAM...

Though yeah, we've hit the end of meaningful compute for normal users for quite awhile...

My wife, not a particularly technical person, is taking quite well to her new Nexus 5. She is mainly using it for reading email but she's impressed with OK, Google (as am I), the nice screen, the camera and the ability to watch YouTube videos. I think that the phone is quite nice - big screen, excellent resolution, KitKat is nice (can't wait until it arrives for my Nexus 7), feels luxurious in how thin it is and the material on the back of the phone. The notification light is nice too.

I noticed that the Micro-USB port seems to be reinforced - it seems a little stronger than the one on my Nexus 7. The little round nub on the bottom of the charging cable is nice so that I can tell what the orientation is without having to look. I plan to get her a wireless charger at some point. I generally hate Micro-USB ports because I have trouble checking the orientation. I use the ASUS Dock to recharge my Nexus 7 to avoid having to plug in a MicroUSB cable.

I use an iPhone 5 and like the App ecosystem there better but the Nexus 5 has what I'd consider comparable hardware, many unique features (due to KitKat) and a luxurious feel at an outstanding price. We also have the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 for our kids and they are very happy with them.

My wife is like yours and chose a GNex two years ago when she needed a new phone. She chose it because of the straight forward interface that she could understand and found the "extra features" included on other phones / skins confusing.

As said before, the speed is amazing. But the real reason I got a Nexus was that 6 or 12 months down the line I know I will still be getting excellent support when everyone else will have new flagships and stop supporting the older ones. I love getting the newest stuff and although specs will always get better I know this phone will hold it's value longer than most others. I am super happy with my purchase.

I've got two Nexus 5 phones in my family now. One for my wife and the one that I call mine :D

I'm as picky as anyone, yet I do not believe in going out of my way to complain. I report as fairly as possible. Use my phone heavily and take personal responsibility to learn about all its features and characteristics _ Before_ calling it defective.

I find the Nexus 5 a very fast, fun and stable smartphone. Five of my friends at work feel the same about theirs. That's a very hearty endorsement considering they've been using Android for years before I have.

The_only area they'd like improved is the camera, a feature I simply don't use. An amateur photographer I always carry a camera. As a result I am positive thrilled with mine and so is my wife.

A list of its strengths and advantages from my perspective, would be so long it's easier to point out the only true area that some would like improved. ME? When I look at the pictures they've taken with their N5's they look quite good to me.

Hope this helps.

That's the reason I finally purchased a Nexus device. I'm always jealous of people getting the newest and greatest phones as soon as they come out. Now I am one of those people and I will be for longer than people who purchased say the HTC One which is already being followed by new models.

Frankly I think you're going to be so impressed and happy with your new Nexus you'll find it very enjoyable to learn even more about Android than you may know now.

If you're new to Android you'll find it easier than you may have anticipated. This latest model is so well equipped with powerful components it'll easily handle future versions of the Android OS.

I'm a multi-platform technologist, as much as I enjoy the variety, my new Nexus 5 puts my iPhone 5S to shame.
