Help Okay Google no longer works within Google Now (KitKat)

Anyone else on a Moto X notice that after upgrading to KitKat that the "Okay Google" function has disappeared from "Google Now"?

Since the upgrade to KitKat, Google Now no longer displays "...Search or say 'Okay, Google'..."

I am using "English - US"

I do have the "Hotword" option checked.

The Touchless Control keyword "Okay, Google Now" still works, I just don't have "Okay, Google" within

I may not be the only one with this issue:

No "Okay Google" on Nexus 5
 
I read somewhere that after the first few times you use it, the wording "say Google" disappears, but that it still works. It's not in the search bar of my phone on 4.2.2 still. It's hard to tell from your question - have you tried actually saying "OK Google" while you are in Google Now or the search app and found it not working, or did you just notice that the "say Google" wording os no longer there?
 
I'm having the same problem. If my screen is off, I'm on my home screen, or using ANY other app, saying "okay Google Now" brings up the black screen with the microphone. However, if I open Google Now manually, or if it opens in response to my voice search, it stops listening once I'm on the white Google Now screen. It doesn't recognize the hot word or any other words for that matter. If I'm in Google Now and I say "Okay Google Now" or "search" or anything at all, nothing happens. As OP stated, this was NOT the case prior to the Kit Kat OTA. Hope a fix rolls out soon.
 
Doogald: If I say "Okay Google" (when Google Now is open and displayed on the Moto X) I get no response. "Okay Google Now" still brings up "Touchless Controls"


GreenMunky: Yeah. This appears to be a bug. I'm seeing lots of other reports on this issue.
 
I noticed this myself and thought it had to do with Kit Kat + Touchless Controls. It may be that the new Google Now integration with Kit Kat would cause problems with Touchless Controls.

Hopefully it gets worked out!

My Nexus 7 (2012) updated to KitKat yesterday afternoon and the "Okay Google" still works on the Nexus 7.

If this is by design, that the "Okay Google" isn't supposed to work on the Moto X, then they need to inform the public so people are not wondering about this issue.

There's a few discussions on Google+ about this too.

As you said, hopefully this is worked out. I'm sure we'll be hearing something soon. Maybe the Phandroid Super Reporters can dig something up. :)

I totally agree, Motorola needs to address this. It just made sense to me that they would take it out since Ok Google Now works everywhere and Ok Google in Kit Kat could cause issues.
 
I trained my launch phrase again on my phone and it seems to be working. I wouldn't say it works 100% of the time though.

Oh, yea the "ok Google" doesn't work. I have to say "ok google now".
 
Okay... for some reason it now works... or at least when I say "Okay Google" it always opens the black touchless controls screen. Whether the phone is asleep, on a home screen, within an app, AND when in Google Now. Dunno what changed (don't think I did anything different). I did not retrain the voice recognition or change the hotword, I'm just now able to say "okay Google" without the "now" and it always works the same.
 
Try rebooting into safe mode:
Reboot to safe mode

If you’re experiencing issues - such as apps crashing, reboots, or fast battery drain - on your device, they could be caused by a third-party app. To check if this is the case, you can start up your device in safe mode, which temporarily disables third-party apps that you’ve installed.

  • Ensure your device's screen is on, then press & hold the Power button.
  • Touch & hold the Power off option in the dialog box.
  • Touch OK in the following dialog to start safe mode.
Try using your device in safe mode to see if the problem persists. If it doesn’t, restart your device to get it out of safe mode and uninstall recently installed apps to see if you can pinpoint the one that’s causing the problem.
I tried this, Voice Search (OK Google) returned; when I rebooted back to normal mode, it was still working. If it isn't working when you reboot to normal, then start uninstalling the most recent apps you've downloaded since the time the problem started.
