Help Galaxy S3 Screen keeps flickering

samy994

Lurker
Hi there, so I've had my phone for around 8 months now and recently it has just started flickering. When i first turn it on it has a few seconds-a min of it not flickering but then it starts to flicker. I can still use it while its flickering like, its just the screen that is flickering but then after a while it just freezes and resets and continues to flicker after.

This would be a case to do a insurance swap. Who knows where in the display chain this happens.

You can always try looking at running apps, memory issues, or factory reset, but sounds like hardware from anywhere from the board to the display.

Hi I also have this problem.

Did you find a solution samy994? Mine also goes from 80% battery to 8% after it flickers and re-starts and freezes.

Mine has literally JUST started to do this two days ago but I noticed an initial short battery life of 5hours max about a fortnight ago. This morning I had just taken my phone off the charger and went into a game app when all of a sudden the flashing / strobing of the screen started and got worse until the phone had a fit and died. It drained the battery completely during that time and had to recharge it. I've never seen or heard any thing like it. If anybody knows how to fix this?

I have seen that happen on two occasions:

water/moisture, or the connector from the LCD to the board being loose. In the case of water damage, you can clean the connector with 99% isopropyl alcohol. If there is no water damage, unsnapping the LCD connector, then reconnecting it, may fix it.

BTW - I am not trying to say there aren't more circumstances that could cause this, just that these are two that I've been able to find and fix.

I had this very same issue which is now resolved!
So screen started randomly flickering, even the backlight led and button illumination was flickering in sync with the screen, then without warning, the S3 reboots multiple times and the battery level percentage drops from fully charged to just a few percent.
I thought it might be due to a virus or app software corrupted so I decided to boot into the root menu and rebuild the OS however once I'd done this it caused my S3 to become 'Bricked' as it then wouldn't even boot past the initial Samsung logo (not the swirly animation). So I got my phone 'Unbricked' by an online Helpdesk called One Click
http://www.oneclickroot.com/ which cost about £36 ($49.99). They succeeded in rebuilding my phone's operating system but this action didn't resolve the flickering/reboot issue. So I was about to give up and go out to buy a brand new phone from carphone warehouse but instead decided to buy a new Samsung original battery from an Amazon seller.... Issue resolved 100%! No more flickering, no more self rebooting, no more battery problems!...in fact the phone now holds charge for ages so I don't have to keep recharging so often!
Hope this helps someone, somewhere! :)
